The meta chloroaromatic content of the chloroalkylbenzenes prepared by a HF-BF3 catalyzed isomerization process may be increased beyond the expected equilibrium by terminating the isomerization before equilibrium is attained, separating the resulting organic and HF layers and subjecting the HF layer to a temperature of from about 40'' to 160*C. The process is particularly well suited to the formation of greater than equilibrium amounts of 1,3,5-chloroxylene and metachlorotoluene from isomeric mixtures of chloroxylenes and chlorotoluenes, respectively.
