Abstract: Disclosed are methods of manufacturing a zeolite membrane, comprising: providing at least one porous substrate; and coating the at least one porous substrate with a membrane. In some embodiments, the method further comprises hydrothermally treating the membrane with a first hydrothermal treatment step with tetrapropylammonium fluoride (TPAF) and a second hydrothermal treatment step with tetraethammonium hydroxide (TEAOH). In some embodiments, coating the substrate with a membrane comprises surrounding at least a portion of the at least one porous substrate with a precursor gel, the gel comprising a gel phase and a plurality of CHA or MFI crystals; heating the at least one porous substrate and the precursor gel; washing the at least one porous substrate; drying the at least one porous substrate; and calcining the at least one porous substrate.

Abstract: Disclosed herein are nanostructured hierarchical zeolitic materials comprising: a plurality of zeolite nanotubes, each zeolite nanotube comprising a zeolitic wall perforated by a plurality of pores, the zeolitic wall defining a single longitudinal lumen. Also disclosed herein are bolaform structure directing agents comprising: a first hydrophilic end and a second hydrophilic end with a hydrophobic core therebetween; the hydrophobic core comprising one or more aromatic rings and one or more hydrophobic alkyl groups; the one or more aromatic rings comprising a biphenyl group; the one or more hydrophobic alkyl groups each independently comprising a C10 alkyl group; and the first hydrophilic end and the second hydrophilic end each independently comprising a quinuclidinium group. Also disclosed herein are methods of making and use of the plurality of zeolite nanotubes and the bolaform structure directing agents.

Abstract: A method of forming a molecular separation device is provided. The method comprises growing or depositing a silica MFI zeolite coating on a ceramic support. The method further comprises growing a ZIF-8 coating on the silica MFI zeolite coating. Growing the ZIF-8 coating on the silica MFI zeolite comprises applying a first reactant fluid including a metal salt and a second reactant fluid including an imidazole reactant to the silica MFI zeolite coating. Growing the ZIF-8 coating on the silica MFI zeolite further comprises reacting the first and second reactant fluid with the silica MFI zeolite coating to produce the ZIF-8 coating. In certain implementations, at least a portion of the ZIF-8 coating is interspersed with a portion of the silica MFI coating. A molecular separation device including the ZIF-8 coating and the silica MFI zeolite is also disclosed.
