摘要： In a weapon system including a gun barrel and a bolt carrier, a cartridge eder system comprises sprockets for stripping cartridges individually from a cartridge belt, and moving the cartridges in an upward direction against guide ramps for positioning the cartridge on a pedestal support having a profile for holding the cartridge in vertical angular alignment between the chamber of the barrel and a bolt lug of the bolt of the bolt carrier, thereby permitting larger cartridges to be fed to the barrel in the space between the open bolt and the chamber, which space can accommodate only smaller caliber cartridges in the horizontal distance therebetween, whereby as the bolt moves the cartridge into the chamber, the angular positioning of the cartridge is changed via the profile of the pedestal support, permitting safe entry of the cartridge into the chamber.

摘要： A firing mechanism for a weapon having a receiver with a chamber for a caidge comprises a bolt and piston which are separately movable toward and away from the chamber and which are engaged with each other for displacing and rotating the bolt into a locked firing position. A buffer is also movable in the receiver and can strike the rear end of the piston. The piston carries a firing pin which can thus be driven into the primer of a cartridge in the chamber. Three sears are provided. Two of the sears are for engaging the piston, one sear for holding the piston in a position with its firing pin away from the cartridge but with the bolt against the chamber and in its locked position. The other sear for the piston holds the piston with the bolt in a position away from the chamber. This is for open bolt operation. A third sear is provided for engaging the buffer for closed bolt operation. A fire selector is provided which can act as a safety and which provides an automatic and a semi-automatic position for stopping rotation of the sears at appropriate positions for automatic or semi-automatic fire.

摘要： An ammunition magazine for an automatic weapon wherein a spring-loaded con of successive cartridges are each fed in alignment to a firing chamber upon the reciprocating action of a bolt. The magazine has a pair of feed-gates, each of which is pivotally mounted on the magazine. The upper ends of the feed-gates together form a semi-circular, separably engaged, retaining cover for the top cartridge in the magazine. The lower ends of the feed-gates in sequence separably engage the next successive round in the magazine in response to the pivotal movement of the upper ends of both gates. This latter action keeps the successive round out of contact with the bolt while the top round is stripped and fed into the firing chamber by the bolt.

The belt consists of separate links, each link comprising two interlocking elements, one of which applies holding force to a cartridge while the other is in tension resulting from pulling force applied to feed the cartridges to the gun. The cartridge-holding element has no tensile force applied to it by the tension element.
