摘要: A local area network system that includes a residential gateway in wired communication with a remote service provider and multiple set top boxes in wired communication with the residential gateway. Each set top box includes a network extender having a wired connection to a residential gateway of a local area network, a media player in communication with the network extender, and at least one wireless transceiver in communication with the network extender. The media player includes a computing processor executing instructions to format a signal received from the network extender for use by a media device. Each set top box is configured as an access point for a local area network of the residential gateway.

摘要: A method includes receiving user data packets from customer premises equipment (CPE) in communication with a network terminal over a communication link and enabling a network terminal-side loopback mode to establish a closed traffic test loop across the communication link between the network terminal and the CPE. The received user data packets indicate that a CPE-side loopback mode is enabled. The method also includes injecting a number of data bits into the closed traffic test loop until a saturation threshold of the communication link is satisfied, and when the number of data bits injected into the closed traffic test loop satisfies the saturation threshold, determining a packet error-rate of the number of data bits circulating in the closed traffic test loop. After determining the packet error-rate, the method also includes removing the closed traffic test loop across the communication link between the network terminal and the CPE.

摘要: A signal distribution system includes global positioning system receivers in communication with optical line terminals and a system manager. Each global positioning system receiver receives a signal from a corresponding global positioning system satellite. Each optical line terminal includes a management card and a line card. The management card receives a signal from a corresponding global positioning system receiver. Each line card receives a signal from each management card and determines a signal drift and a phase precision for each signal. The system manager receives a failure communication for a global positioning system signal from a line card when the signal drift of the global positioning system signal is above a threshold signal drift or the phase precision of the signal is below a threshold phase precision. The system manager identifies a failure location of the signal within the system based on one or more received failure communications.

摘要: A remote control for a set-top box is configured to communicate with the set-top box using first and second wavelengths. In one embodiment, the remote control automatically performs Bluetooth pairing with the set-top box when the remote control is in proximity to the set-top box and the user presses a button on the remote, such as a “Power” button or other designated button. The remote control may wirelessly transmit a unique ID to the set-top box for the pairing process using the first wavelength, such as infrared. When paired, the set-top box may accept commands from the remote control transmitted using the second wavelengths, e.g., Bluetooth.

摘要: A cascaded distribution framework includes a global positioning system receiver in communication with optical line terminals. Each global positioning system receiver receives a signal from a corresponding global positioning system satellite. Each optical line terminal includes a management card for each global positioning system receiver in communication with the optical line terminal and a line card. The management card receives a global positioning system signal from a corresponding global positioning system receiver. The line card is collocated for each management card in the optical line terminal. Each line card receives a global positioning system signal from each management card in the optical line terminal, determines a signal quality score of each received signal based on a signal drift and a phase precision of the corresponding signal, and selects one of the received global positioning system signals having the highest signal quality score.

摘要: A method of establishing communication between an optical line terminal and an optical network unit within an optical access network includes receiving a signal indication from an optical transceiver of an optical line terminal. The signal indication includes: (i) a loss-of-signal indication indicating non-receipt of an upstream optical signal from the optical network unit; or (ii) a signal-received indication indicating receipt of the upstream optical signal from the optical network unit. The method includes determining whether the signal indication includes the loss-of-signal indication. When the signal indication includes the loss-of-signal indication, the method includes instructing the optical transceiver to cease signal transmission from the optical transceiver to the optical network unit. Moreover, when the signal indication includes the signal-received indication, the method includes instructing the optical transceiver to transmit a downstream optical signal from the optical transceiver to the optical network unit.
