    摘要: Apparatus is disclosed having document recognition capability for determining the size and location of an original document on a scanner platen before the document is scanned for image capture, and which effects both document recognition and image capture within a single scan cycle. A platen is optically scanned in forward and reverse intrack directions, and an electrical information signal characteristic of the optical densities scanned is created. Document recognition is responsive to the electrical information signal produced during the forward direction scan for detecting the boundaries of an original document on the platen. Image capture is responsive to the electrical information signal produced during the reverse direction scan for producing a record of the image on the original document. Magnification is provided for changing the size of the recorded image from that of the image on the original document in part by adjusting the speed of the reverse intrack scan, and is automatically adjustable in accordance with the size of the recording sheet.

    摘要: An apparatus and method for processing image data operates in a high capacity or a high quality mode. In the former a single bit per pixel is created and processed along one of two identical processing paths. The processing paths involve compression, buffering and expansion for output to a writer interface. The processing path selected for pixels in each image frame is in accordance with the most available buffering memory. In the latter mode two bits per pixel, a more significant bit (MSB) and a less significant bit (LSB) are created and processed simultaneously along the two processing paths. The processing path for each is selected in accordance with the LSB being processed by the processing path with the most available memory. As compression of the LSBs is not as efficient as that of the MSBs, the number of document pages stored in the compression buffers is maximized.

    摘要: An electrophotographic copies having a document scanner which determines the location of registration marks on the platen. The scanner is initially operated in a calibration mode without a document on the platen. The platen is scanned and the data obtained is processed to determine when transitions from low to high density occur. These occurrences are translated to scanner locations to obtain the locations of the edges of the registration marks or guides, and the locations are stored in memory. In subsequent scannings of documents, only data within the determined locations of the registration edges is stored in memory.

    摘要: Replication of a two-color original image with foreground and background colors exchanged is effected on a received signal representing the color information of each successive pixel of a two-color original image by generating a histogram of the color data distribution for each color plane of the original image, determining a translation point within each histogram, and performing a histogram translation of the color plane image data about the translation point. The translation point may be determined by selecting the approximate midpoint between the foreground information and the background information in each histogram as the translation point, or by selecting the statistical average of each histogram as the translation point. Once the translation point is determined, a new color data value for each pixel in a color plane is selected by subtracting the pixel's original color data value from twice the color data value of the translation point.

    摘要: A copier has the capability to determine the size of the original document, or a designated portion thereof, for purposes of auto scaling, auto paper select, and/or window scaling, to set image magnification parameters, and to process the image signal according to the set parameters in but a single scan of the original document. The copier forms an image on a copy sheet based on a supplied series of electrical data signals. Document recognition determines the size of an original document from a series of electrical data signals, and a series of electrical data signals representative of the image content of a document is stored in memory. The size of a copy sheet and the size of the formed image are matched in accordance with the document recognition in response to but a single scan of an original document. A portion of an original document and a magnificaiton ratio may be designated for scaling.

    摘要: An apparatus includes an electronic scanner for scanning a set of original document pages to be reproduced as a production job. The scanner produces first signals representing image information on the document pages. An operator control panel (OCP) allows input of job and page level requirements for copying the set of documents pages as a copy job and generates second and third signals respectively representing these. A job image buffer is responsive to the first, second and third signals and stores fourth signals representing image information for use in reproducing the set of document pages. There is also provided a buffer for generating fifth signals representing consecutive numbers for use in annotating copies of the document pages. In response to the fourth and fifth signals, the copier produces a proof set of consecutively numbered hard copy pages of the set of document pages with consecutive numbered annotations not present on the original document pages. The apparatus then prompts the operator via a display screen to input a number on one of the consecutively numbered pages and an operator selectable page level requirement for changing a requirement for reproducing an original page in said set corresponding to said one page. After a proof set is formed, the original page having a requirement to be changed may be re-scanned. The copier then produces collated copy sets of the set of document pages as a copy job with the original page reproduced according to the changed requirement.

    摘要: A copier capable of selectively changing an original color on a document to a target color on a copy, includes a digitizer for designating a spacial coordinate at which appears the original color to be changed to a target color. In a single scan, a scanner generates a series of electrical signals characteristic of the image content of the document, including the image content at the designated spacial coordinate. The generated signals are stored in a full page memory. As the stored signals are read from memory and supplied to a writer, color substitution is effected to the stored signals generated from portions of the document having a color substantially the same as that at the designated coordinate.
