Abstract: A propeller shaft (1) that is a power transmission shaft has a shaft member (2) as a tubular body made of iron-based metal and a balance weight (3) made of iron-based metal and welded to an outer peripheral surface of this shaft member (2). At least a part of the balance weight (3) of the propeller shaft (1) is covered with a sacrificial metal coating (4) made of sacrificial corrosion prevention material that contains metal whose ionization tendency is higher than that of metal forming the shaft member (2). With this, it is possible to suppress local progression of corrosion at a periphery of the balance weight (3) and improve durability of the propeller shaft (1) .

Abstract: A propeller shaft (PS) has a balance piece (9) on the outer peripheral side of a stub shaft body section (31) of a stub shaft (3), which is axially separated from both spline sections (25, 34), which are spline fitting sections. Due to this configuration, changes in the gap in both spline sections (25, 34) when the balance piece (9) is welded are minimized, and the occurrence of new rotational imbalance can be minimized. As a result, rotational imbalance in the propeller shaft (PS) due to the balance piece (9) can be corrected appropriately and easily.

Abstract: In a coupling structure for a propeller shaft and a propeller shaft, a propeller shaft-side adapter includes: a flange portion of the propeller shaft-side adapter extending in a radial direction relative to a rotation axis of a rotation shaft, and connected to a flange portion of a vehicle-side adapter; a center pin accommodating portion formed on the rotation axis, and into which a center pin provided to the vehicle-side adapter is inserted; and an inner peripheral portion formed between the flange portion of the propeller shaft-side adapter and the center pin accommodating portion in the radial direction relative to the rotation axis, which is opposed to the vehicle-side adapter in a direction of the rotation axis, and in which a distance from the rotation axis in the radial direction relative thereto decreases extending away from the flange portion of the vehicle-side adapter in the rotation axis direction.
