Abstract: An object is to maintain high friction state even after repeated use. A carbon nanotube composite includes: a vertically aligned carbon nanotube array composed of vertically oriented carbon nanotubes coated with amorphous carbon; and a base layer which has the vertically aligned carbon nanotube array fixed thereto. One end portion, which is one of the opposite end portions in the direction of orientation of the vertically oriented carbon nanotubes, is exposed on the outside of the base layer.
