A PROCESS FOR THE PREPARATION OF PULVERULENT COPOLYMERS PREPARED BY SAPONIFYINGB ACRYLAMIDE-N-SULFONIC ACIDS CONSISTING OF ETHYLENE STRUCTURAL UNITS AND VINYL-AMIDE STRUCTURAL UNITS, AND POSSIBLY FURTHER STRUCTURAL UNITS OF ETHYLENICALLY MONO-UNSATURATED COPOLYMERIZABLE MONOMERS. THE MODIFIED POLYETHYLENE POWDERS OBTAINED IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE INVENTION ARE EXTREMELY SUITABLE FOR THE POWDERING OF RUBBER SHEETS AND/OR RUBBER GRANULES, FOR WHIRL-SINTERING COATIG, AS TEXTILE REINFORCEMENT TO BE IRONED INTO THE MATERIAL, AS A SUPPORTING BASE FOR PIGMENT PREPARATIONS, AS POWDER BASE FOR PHARMACEUTICAL OR COSMETIC PREPARATIONS, AS A LUBRICANT FOR THE TABLET MANUFACTURE, AS WELL AS ADDITIVES TO POLYESTER AND POLYVINYL CHLORIDE EXTRUSION MATERIAL IN ORDER TO INCREASE THE FLOW PROPERTY IN THE EXTRUSION PROCESS AND TO IMPROVE THE IMPACT STRENGTH OF SUCH POLYMERS.

PROCESS FOR THE MANUFACTURE OF ETHYLENE COPOLYMER DISPERSIONS BY COPOLYMERIZING ETHYLENE WITH ALKALI METAL SALTS OF ONE OR MORE MONO-UNSATURATED ACYLASMIDE-N-SULFONIC ACIDS OF THE FORMULA R1CH=C(R2)CONH-SO3H, WHEREIN R1 AND R2 EACH REPRESENTS A HYDROGEN ATOM OR AN ORGANIC RADICAL CONTAINING 1 TO 10 CARBON ATOMS. IF NECESSARY, FURTHER COPOLYMERIZABLE COMPOUNDS MAY BE USED ADDITIONALLY. THE COPOLYMER DISPERSIONS OF THE INVENTION MAY BE USED FOR COATING PLASTICS MATERIALS, WOOD, PAPER AND THE LIKE AS WELL AS FOR IMPREGNATING OR FINISHING PAPER, FELT OR FIBROUS MATERIALS.

CROSS-LINKED ETHYLENE COPOLYMERS WHICH ARE PREPARED FROM ETHYLENE COPYMERS CONSISTING OF AT LEAST 50% BY WEIGHT OF ETHYLENE AND 0.5 TO 40% BY WEIGHT OF MONOMERS CARRYING AZETIDINONE RINGS, WHICH COPOLYMERS ARE CROSS-LINKED BY HEAT TREATMENT.
