Abstract:
An improved strain responsive line sensor detection system which is selectively sensitive to motion of a mass on a surface. In a line sensor having an uniform thin film plated wire, the sensitivity of the line sensor falls off with distance of the intrusion from the source end of the line where are connected the high frequency drive and the processor electronics. In this invention, the thin film plated wire is made monotonically nonuniform along its length in one or more of its magnetic properties and parameters, i.e., the magnetostriction may have a gradient along its length, the plating thickness may have a gradient along its length and be made progressively thicker, and the Hk may have a decreasing gradient along its length, to compensate in whole or in part for the losses in the plated wire thereby making it possible to extend the length of a thin film line sensor.
Abstract:
A perimeter security system comprising a strain sensitive line sensor in the form of dual magnetostrictive thin film plated wires having uniaxial anisotropy. The plated wire line sensor is preferably buried in a shallow trench or the like and detects intrusion in the vicinity of the line as the line sensor is stressed by the intruder causing a displacement of the earth. One of the dual plated wires is made to have a different degree of magnetostrictiveness than the other. The detection system is selectively sensitive to the motion of a mass on a surface, but tends to reject magnetic disturbances which effectively produce the same signal.
Abstract:
An electrically conductive wire is plated with a thin film of a magnetically anisotropic substance. A plurality of coils are placed around the wire at different points along its length. Either the wire or the coils are energized by an alternating current, and the signal developed on the other is monitored to detect intrusion of a magnetic body into the vicinity.
Abstract:
A magnetostrictive anisotropic thin film plated wire transducer for measurement of deformation of an plastic medium. A length of magnetostrictive plated wire is strung back-and-forth across a transducer framework, the magnetostrictive wire being sensitive to stress and strain. The transducer detects deformation of a surface or a structure generated by external changes in pressure on that surface or structure. The deforming surface either directly induces a stress in the magnetrostrictive plated wire transducer or induces a stress on it via an intermediate medium such as a fluid.
Abstract:
A single source several sensor security system in which a plurality of magnetometer sensors report back through a common circuit to a processor which will process the outputs of the several units. The magnetometer sensors are designed to be frequency selective so that each sensor responds to an individual frequency of drive excitation.
