Abstract: A method, apparatus, and computer program product for detecting volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in a gas is provided. An example VOC detector may include a processing device and a detecting region. The detecting region may further include a first interdigital pole electrically connected to a separation voltage source, a second interdigital pole electrically connected to a switch, and an ionization device configured to interact with the gas within the detecting region to create a plurality of ionized gas molecules. To facilitate detection of VOCs, the switch may alternate the connection of the second interdigital pole between a compensation voltage source and the processing device. The processing device may determine a number of volatile organic compounds in the gas based at least in part on a number of ionized gas molecules that contact the second interdigital pole while the second interdigital pole is electrically connected to the processing device.

Abstract: Methods and systems for detecting and limiting the water in a photoionization detector are provided. The method may include powering off a lamp configured to ionize particles of air. The method may also include monitoring a signal from the photoionization detector. The signal may be monitored based on a current between a signal electrode and a bias electrode. In an instance the signal is above a signal threshold, the method may also include electrolyzing one or more particles of water present in the photoionization detector by closing a leakage switch in order to allow current to flow through the bias electrode and the signal electrode. In an instance the signal is below the signal threshold, the method may include powering on the lamp to begin photoionization detection. Corresponding systems are also provided.

Abstract: Devices, apparatuses, methods, and computer program products are provided for hemorrhage detection. An example sensing device for hemorrhage detection includes a blood detection layer that includes a permeable film and one or more optical fibers supported by the permeable film. The device also includes an optical sensor that includes a light source that emits light and an optical receiver in optical communication with the light source via the one or more optical fibers. The optical receiver generates optical data responsive to the light emitted by the light source and received by the optical receiver via the one or more optical fibers indicative of at least a wavelength of the light. The device further includes a controller operably coupled with the optical sensor that receives the optical data generated by the optical receiver in response to the emitted light and determines an amount of blood based upon the optical data.

Abstract: Methods, apparatuses, and systems for providing an alternating current (AC) voltage supply for a photoionization detector lamp from a direct current (DC) voltage source are provided. An example apparatus may include a DC voltage to DC voltage (DC/DC) converter circuitry, and a feedback circuitry that is electronically coupled to the DC/DC converter circuitry and converts a reference AC voltage to a feedback DC voltage for the DC/DC converter circuitry. In some examples, the feedback circuitry may be electronically coupled to a DC voltage to AC voltage (DC/AC) converting circuitry to obtain the reference AC voltage.

Abstract: The gas detector calibration system comprises a control unit, a temperature regulation assembly, a pump, and a temperature sensor. The temperature regulation assembly has an inlet and an outlet, and the pump has a pump inlet and a pump outlet. The outlet of the temperature regulation assembly is coupled to the pump inlet of the pump. The temperature regulation assembly receives ambient air through the inlet, regulates a temperature of the ambient air, and supplies the ambient air to the pump through the outlet. The pump supplies the ambient air to a gas detector for regulating a temperature of the gas detector. The temperature sensor detects the temperature and sends a signal indicative of the temperature to the control unit. The control unit determines whether the temperature is within a predefined temperature range, when within the predefined temperature range, the gas detector is calibrated using a calibration gas.
