A pressure wave supercharger for internal combustion engines, particularly those in motor vehicles, has a rotor, driven in proportion to the engine speed, with a plurality of rotor cells oriented parallel to its axis of rotation. The cells are connected, at one end, in the exhaust gas flow between the exhaust manifold and the exhaust system and, at the other end, in the intake air stream between the air intake and the intake manifold. Placed on the rotor and concentric therewith is a rigid vibration damping ring, which is contacted by a support, firmly attached to the rotor, so as to create friction. The friction produced by sliding of the rigid ring on the support, acts to absorb a large part of the vibration energy of the rotor and thereby, correspondingly, to eliminate the production of annoying noise.

The mounting of an engine with at least one hydraulically damped spring element on the body of a motor vehicle having a wheel which is spring-mounted with respect to the body. Movements of the engine as a result of irregularities in its path are damped by a displacement transducer placed between the body and the wheel, and the hydraulically damped spring element is operatively connected to the displacement transducer in such a way that as the signal from the displacement transducer increases as a result of a change in displacement between the body and the wheel, the hydraulic damping of the spring element increases.

The motor vehicle have has at least one wheel mounted in a sprung fashion to the chassis and the engine displacement vibrations are minimized by a displacement transducer placed between the wheel and the chassis that signals the control device to hydraulically increase the spring rate of the engine mount with increasing displacement between the wheel and chassis in advance of wheel movement passed through the chassis affecting the engine in a predetermined frequency range.

A muffler is disclosed comprising a closed housing having an annular inlet and an annular outlet neck, and the housing having arranged therein a pair of axially extending pipes which are at least partially overlapping one another. One of the pipes is connected to the inlet neck and has a circumferentially arranged passageway to permit the exhaust gases to be directed from the inlet neck to the inside of the housing. The other pipe is connected to the outlet neck and has a circumferentially arranged passageway to permit the exhaust gases to be directed from inside the housing to the outlet neck.
