Abstract:
Disclosed is a vertical stand of a sizing mill for rolling seamless tube in which each roll of the mill is contained in and supported by a yoke moveable both transversely of the product passline and axially of the roll axis, the latter adjustment being performed by an elevator arranged normally at the bottom of the mill for moving both yokes as a unit with their rolls, i.e. a yoke-roll set, through the top of the stand to a roll changing position where both yokes are transferred as a unit to one of two in-lined arranged side shifting carriages supported by the stand, the arrangement being such that when a used yoke-roll set is moved away from the stand at the top thereof by one of the carriages a replacement yoke-roll set is positioned above the stand of the other carriage in readiness to be received and lowered into the stand by the elevator.
Abstract:
A method of expanding a diameter of a tube includes the steps of positioning the tube with one end abutting a stop member, extending a mandrel through an interior passageway of the tube, and expanding a diameter of an expandable head connected to the mandrel as the mandrel is moved in a direction toward the stop member. The diameter of the tube expands in correspondence with the expansion of the diameter of the mandrel. A longitudinal axial force is applied to the tube in a direction toward the stop member as the expandable head expands the diameter of the tube.
Abstract:
An apparatus for tapering a tube having a frame, a tube receiving end connected to the frame, a variable-orifice die arranged so as to be movable relative to the frames, and an axial tension cylinder connected to the tube receiving end so as to apply tension forces to the tube. The variable-orifice die includes a stand having a housing and a plurality of die segments arranged within the housing. The die segments contain a circular groove of varying radius. The die segments define an orifice having an entry plane and an exit plane. The exit plane and the entry plane are offset from the plane of rotation of the die segments. The orifice is truly round in a plane parallel to and offset from the plane of rotation. A motion control processer is interactively connected with the die stand and with the axial tension cylinder for controlling a position of the axial tension cylinder relative to a rate of reduction of the diameter of the tube.
Abstract:
Tractive apparatus for longitudinally moving elongated material providing opposed tractive assemblies for gripping material therebetween by opposed and balanced gripping forces. Each tractive assembly provides a plurality of tractive members in end-to-end relation confined to circulation in a closed path and the apparatus is characterized by the provision of means for holding the tractive members in abutting relationship at least during the time they grip the material. The apparatus is further characterized by the reduction of frictional forces on the tractive members by forcing the latter against the elongated material by sets of rolling bodies, each set of which circulates in a closed path within a respective tractive member path. Each tractive member has a material gripping face and each face is maintained in assembled relation with its tractive member by magnetic attraction to provide for ready removal and replacement of such faces.
