摘要: A display device includes a display panel, a first optical unit, and a second optical unit. The display panel includes a first substrate, a second substrate, and a liquid crystal layer disposed between the first substrate and the second substrate. The liquid crystal layer is operated in a vertical alignment mode. The first optical unit includes a C-plate and a first polarization plate having a first absorption axis. The second optical unit includes a positive A-plate, a negative A-plate, and a second polarization plate having a second absorption axis substantially perpendicular to the first absorption axis. The positive A-plate and the negative A-plate may gather dispersed polarization states of a colored light.

摘要: A flat panel display device is provided with an increased viewing angle having good dark versus light imaging contrast. The display device includes a display panel, a first optical unit, and a second optical unit. The display panel includes a liquid crystal layer that is driven in a vertical alignment mode. The first optical unit includes a negative C-plate and a first polarizer having a first absorption axis. The second optical unit includes a biaxial compensation plate having a refractive indices coefficient, (nx−nz)/(nx−ny) of more than 0.45 and less than 0.55, and a second polarizer having a second absorption axis crossing the first absorption axis. The biaxial compensation plate has a refractive indices relationship of nx>nz>ny such that dispersion of polarization states of colored light rays passed through the C-plate and the liquid crystal layer may be minimized and gathered about an extinction point, thereby improving contrast at side viewing angles.

摘要: A display apparatus comprises a display panel, a first polarizing plate and a second polarizing plate. The display panel comprises a first substrate including a pixel electrode, a second substrate opposite to the first substrate, and a liquid crystal layer disposed between a first surface of the first substrate and a first surface of the second substrate. The first polarizing plate comprises a first polarizer having a first polarizing axis, and a first λ/4 phase difference plate having a refractive index between about 1.35 and about 2.05 in a thickness direction. The second polarizing plate comprises a second polarizer having a second polarizing axis crossing the first polarizing axis, and a second λ/4 phase difference plate having a refractive index between about 1.35 and about 2.05 in a thickness direction. Accordingly, light leakage in a side view may be reduced and viewing angle may be improved.

摘要: A liquid crystal display includes a lower panel, an upper panel facing the lower panel and including a plurality of red color filters, green color filters, and blue color filters, and a liquid crystal layer interposed between the lower and upper panels. The liquid crystal layer has first, second and third cell-gap portions corresponding to the red, green and blue filters, respectively, and the first second and third cell-gap portions have cell gaps Dr, Dg and Db, respectively. A first compensation film is disposed on an outer surface of one of the lower panel or the upper panel. A lower polarizer is on the outer surface of the lower panel and an upper polarizer is on the outer surface of the upper panel. The cell gaps Dr, Dg and Db may satisfy the equation 0 μm≦Dg−Db and Dr−Dg≦0.5 μm.

摘要: A sealant that can be used in a liquid crystal display device without contaminating the liquid crystal layer is presented. The sealant includes an acrylic-based compound having at least two acryl groups per molecule and an epoxy-based compound having an epoxy group and a dihydrazide compound. A liquid crystal display using the sealant is provided. The liquid crystal display includes a first substrate having a display area, a second substrate on the first substrate and a liquid crystal layer interposed between the first and second substrates. A sealant pattern is formed on any one of the first and second substrates in an outer portion of the display area by using the sealant.
