    摘要: A wireless data communication system is operable in a power saving mode wherein stations are synchronized to be in an awake state to receive synchronizing messages (TIM, PSYNC) and traffic indicator information and are changed to a doze state if they are not to receive data messages. In one embodiment all stations (20) communicate via a base station access point (16), which broadcasts synchronizing messages (TIM) at regular intervals identifying stations (20) that are to receive data messages. In another embodiment all stations (220) communicate directly with one another, one station assumes the role of a master station and broadcasts synchronizing messages (PSYNC), and stations (220) desiring to transmit data messages transmit traffic indicator messages (PTIM) to the appropriate destination stations (220), in a synchronized awake period just before the next synchronizing message (PSYNC) is expected to arrive.

    摘要: For use in a wireless computer network having a radio relay capable of transmitting messages, a system and method, operable with the radio relay, for selectively repeating a unicast message received from a source end-station only upon some indication that a destination end-station has not received the message. The system includes: (1) a transceiver that receives the unicast message from the source end-station and (2) control circuitry, coupled to the transceiver, that determines whether the destination end-station has received the unicast message and causes the transceiver to refrain from repeating the unicast message if the destination end-station has received the unicast message, the radio relay thereby freed from repeating already-received unicast messages.

    摘要: A receiver, and a method for operating the receiver, for a station in a wireless local area network using a common wireless communication channel and employing a CSMA/CA (carrier sense multiple access with collision avoidance) protocol includes various modes. In normal mode, the receiver follows typical states in order to detect a message and demodulate data from the message properly. Meanwhile, a process implements a message-in-message (MIM) mode when an energy increase above a specified level is detected. While in the MIM mode, if a carrier is detected, the energy increase is caused by a new message; otherwise, the energy increase is caused by an interfering station. If the carrier is detected, the receiver begins retraining so that it can start receiving the new message as soon as the first message ends. If no carrier is detected, the receiver waits a specified time to detect a carrier or for the end of the first message, after which the receiver returns to the beginning of the normal mode. While in the normal mode, if a message is detected that is not addressed to the station, the receiver enters a hunt mode. While in the hunt mode, the receiver waits for the current message to finish. At the same time, a process implements retraining when both an energy increase above a specified level and a carrier are detected. If no carrier is detected within a specified time, or if the energy level decreases below the specified level, the receiver returns to the beginning of the normal mode.
