The device is adapted to be coupled to incoming and outgoing coaxial cables and includes a ferrite core configured as a first hollow cylinder mounted coaxially within a housing configured as a second hollow cylinder. A conductor within the housing has opposite ends positioned for electrical contact with the incoming and outgoing coaxial cables and an intermediate portion passing through the ferrite core longitudinally at least twice, being passed back over the outside surface of the core between passes therethrough. The elements are so dimensioned that the outside diameter of the housing is less than one inch, thereby allowing side-by-side mounting of a plurality of the devices on industry-standard, multi-port taps which have center-to-center spacings of one inch.

    摘要: An assembly for housing electronic components for use in a CATV system. The assembly includes a hollow body member having a central axis and opposite ends, at least one header adjoining one end of the body member in coaxial relation. The body member includes a notch in one end and the header includes a tab configured to extend into the notch to rotationally lock the body member to the header. The assembly may also include a plurality of hollow body members and a pair of headers each having a central axis. The body members and headers are positioned in an axially aligned array with the headers at opposite ends. The assembly includes cooperative structure rotationally locking each of the body members and headers to the adjacent body member and header. The assembly may further include a sleeve covering at least portions of the body member and headers.

    摘要: A device providing an enclosure for electronic components of an RF filter, trap, or the like for use in a CATV system. The device includes a hollow, cylindrical body portion with male and female headers at opposite ends with mutually engaged portions of the body and headers serving to rotationally lock the body and headers to one another. The mutually engaged portions comprise a pair of notches in each end of the body member and a pair of tabs on each of the headers which extend into the corresponding notches, the tabs and notches having substantially equal widths to prevent rotation of the headers relative to the body upon application of a torque, such as occurs when the devices are installed and threaded to an adjoining connector. In addition to the single body version, the invention is disclosed in a six-pole version having three body members arranged in successive, coaxial relation and rotationally locked to the headers at each end and to adjoining body members. In both versions, the body member(s) and header(s) are maintained in longitudinally assembled relation without the conventional induction soldering operation. In the first embodiment the body and headers are enclosed in a closely fitting sleeve having opposite ends which are formed over the peripheries of the headers. In the second embodiment, longitudinally adjoining members are joined by interference fit with a locking ring and groove to lock the inner body to the header.

    摘要: A protective system for reducing the possibility of injury to individuals or damage to electrical equipment due to a fault in a coaxial drop cable connected between a tap unit receiving both RF signals and AC power from a main distribution line and a premise unit coupling the RF signals to RF receiving equipment and the AC power to other AC powered equipment at user premises. The tap unit includes a circuit having a first line connected at spaced points to an inner conductor with the RF signals flowing through the inner conductor and the AC power flowing through the first line. A regulated monitoring current flows from an AC to DC converter in the first line to a difference amplifier having a pair of inputs with a resistor connected between the two, whereby the difference amplifier serves to monitor the monitoring current by measuring the voltage drop across the resistor. A comparator receives the output of the difference amplifier and actuates an AC switch to selectively pass or block AC power in accordance with values of the monitoring current falling within or outside predetermined limits indicative of no-fault and fault conditions of the cable. A circuit in the premise unit electrically isolates the premises equipment from the monitoring current and includes a second resistor which is used to set the limits of the monitoring current

    摘要: A filter circuit directed primarily to use in the CATV industry includes at least one frequency dependent component, such as an RF choke, capacitor or inductor, for attenuating signals over at least a portion of the frequency range of signals which pass through the filter. In a typical application, signals are transmitted and received in both forward and return paths at each end of a multi-channel, two-way communication system. Signals in the frequency range of the return path, or of both paths, are attenuated by a desired amount, which is essentially constant over the frequency range of attenuation. In any case, the circuit component providing the attenuation is frequency dependent, thus providing a number of advantages, such as reducing the number of circuit components, reducing filter size and cost, and/or increasing the filter's electric surge and power handling capabilities.
