    摘要: An optical transmission system with automatic startup functions to optimize the power level of optical signals entering each optical amplifier and operate those amplifiers in appropriate mode. In the process of starting up an optical transmission system, upstream and downstream optical transmission devices set up themselves under the coordination of their internal controllers. The downstream device controller adjusts its local variable optical attenuator by utilizing optical noise emission from a post-amplifier in the upstream optical transmission device, and it selects and sets a preamplifier unit to work in appropriate operating mode. The upstream device controller, on the other hand, selects and sets operating mode of its local post-amplifier unit. During this process, the upstream and downstream device controllers exchange messages over supervisory control channels to achieve the purpose.

    摘要: Conventionally, an adjustment of an optical power level of an input Pin of an optical amplifier module is made with an optical variable attenuator. An optical coupler for measuring the optical power level of Pin and an optical variable attenuator are replaced by a variable optical coupler. The branch ratio of the variable optical coupler is varied, whereby the input optical power level Pin to an optical amplifier module is adjusted. As a result, an optical loss is reduced by an amount corresponding to the elimination of the optical attenuator, and also the OSNR of the optical amplifier module is improved.

    摘要: A wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) device, an optical leakage prevention method, and a WDM communication system are disclosed. The WDM device includes a level adjusting unit for receiving an optical signal, for adjusting the optical power level of the received optical signal, and for outputting the level-adjusted optical signal; and a controlling unit for analyzing the optical power level of the optical signal output from the level adjusting unit, for controlling the level adjusting unit so that the optical power level of the output optical signal stays at a constant level, and for transitioning to an “off-state” when the optical power level of the output optical signal becomes less than a predetermined disconnection-detection threshold so that the level adjusting unit gives a predetermined attenuation to the input optical signal. The controlling unit transitions from the “off-state” when the optical power level of the output optical signal is greater than a predetermined recovery threshold and an upstream WDM device is not in the “off-state”.

    摘要: A wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) device, an optical leakage prevention method, and a WDM communication system are disclosed. The WDM device includes a level adjusting unit for receiving an optical signal, for adjusting the optical power level of the received optical signal, and for outputting the level-adjusted optical signal; and a controlling unit for analyzing the optical power level of the optical signal output from the level adjusting unit, for controlling the level adjusting unit so that the optical power level of the output optical signal stays at a constant level, and for transitioning to an “off-state” when the optical power level of the output optical signal becomes less than a predetermined disconnection-detection threshold so that the level adjusting unit gives a predetermined attenuation to the input optical signal.
