Dimples of the number of 300 to 550 pieces are formed in the surface of the golf ball in such a manner that a dimple total volume ratio VR is in a range of 0.85% or less. The multi-piece golf ball is excellent in resilience, flight distance characteristic, and feel of hitting.

The core has a hardness corresponding to a deflection in a range of 3.5 to 6.5 mm under an applied load of 100 kg. The outermost layer of the at least one intermediate layer has a Dulometer D hardness in a range of 20 to 55, and the cover is harder than the outermost layer of the at least one intermediate layer and has a Dulometer D hardness in a range of 50 to 70. 摘要： A golf ball including a sold core and a cover is provided. A deformed amount of the solid core, measured by applying a load of 980 N thereto, is in a range of 4.0 to 6.0 mm. A JIS-C hardness of the cover is in a range of 75 to 95. A JIS-C hardness (Sh) of a surface of the core and a JIS-hardness (Ch) of a center portion of the core satisfy a relationship of 1.55×Ch−16≦Sh≦1.55×Ch−10. A JIS-C hardness (Vh) of the cover and a JIS-C hardness (Sh) of the surface of the core satisfy a relationship of 0.9×Vh−70≦Vh−Sh≦0.9×Vh−50. The hardnesses of the center portion of the core, the surface of the core, and the cover become higher in this order. With this configuration, the golf ball can exhibit a high carrying performance, a good controllability, a desirable very soft feeling of hitting, and an excellent durability against continuous hitting.

The intermediate layer is made from a material mainly containing an ionomer resin, and has a JIS-C hardness of 70-85 and a thickness of 0.5-2 mm. The cover is made from a material mainly containing an ionomer resin, and has a JIS-C hardness of 85 or more and a thickness of 0.5-2 mm. A difference in JIS-C hardness between the intermediate layer and the surface of the solid core is in a range of 15 or less. A different in JIS-C hardness between the cover and the intermediate layer is in a range of 10 or more. The hardnesses of the solid core, the intermediate layer, and the cover satisfy a relationship of (hardness gradient from intermediate layer to cover)/(hardness gradient from core center to intermediate layer)≧6. The dimples are arranged such that there is no great circle line not crossing any one of the dimples. The golf ball can exhibit a very soft hitting feel, an excellent durability, a low spin rate and a high hitting angle, and an increased carry due to a high resilience.
