摘要： A liquid crystal display device comprising: (a) a liquid crystal layer arranged between substrates each having an electrode; (b) a pair of polarizers arranged so as to sandwich the liquid crystal layer; (c) a birefringent medium arranged between the liquid crystal layer and at least one of the polarizers, when a voltage is applied so that liquid crystal molecules at boundary regions facing said substrates have different tilt angles from other molecules, retardation in said birefringent medium being equal or close to remaining retardation due to the liquid crystal molecules at boundary regions, and the slow axis of said birefringent medium being set for an angle to compensate for said remaining retardation; and (d) control means for changing transmission of said liquid crystal layer by applying voltages of two or more values between said electrodes.

摘要： The present invention provides a liquid crystal display apparatus having preferable viewing performance with low cost. A display in a dark state is performed with an applied voltage which makes a square sum of deviation of normalized Stokes parameters S1', S2' for light transmitted through a twisted nematic liquid crystal layer having wavelengths, 450 nm, 500 nm, 550 nm, 600 nm, 650 nm from their regression line 51 equal to or less than 0.05, a slow axis 52 of an optical compensation layer crosses over perpendicularly with the regression line 51 on a Poincare sphere sighted from a S3' axis direction, a phase difference of the optical compensation layer, .delta.(.lambda.), is defined by the following equation;.delta.(.lambda.)=180n.+-.arctan((S1'cos2.theta.-2S2'sin2.theta.)/S3')and an absorbing axis 53 of a higher polarizer is set so as to cross over either of two points, A and B, at which the regression line crosses over the equator on the Poincare sphere.

摘要： There is provided an infrared signal receiver which includes a photo-detector unit receiving light in a predetermined infrared wavelength region, sent from a remote operating unit; and an optical element disposed in front of the photo-detector unit, allowing the light of the predetermined infrared wavelength region to transmit therethrough in preference to other infrared wavelength region. In the receiver, the predetermined signal wavelength region is a region of 930 nm or longer and 960 nm or shorter, and mean transmittance of light of the optical element in the predetermined signal wavelength region is larger than mean transmittance of light in a region of 900 nm or longer and shorter than 930 nm, and/or, mean transmittance of light in a region of longer than 960 nm and 1,020 nm or shorter.

摘要： An object of this invention is to make uniform the gap in the frame edge portion of the liquid crystal device and the wiring resistances and to improve the display quality and minimize the frame edge area to the limit. To achieve the above object, the liquid crystal display of this invention comprises a plurality of parallel display electrodes 40-n wired over the electrode substrate 311 (312); terminals 41-n for the electrodes 40-n led out to the end portion of the electrode substrate 311 (312) and connected to TCPs, the terminals 41-n having pitches smaller than those of the electrodes 40-n; and leadout wirings 331 (332) for connecting the electrodes 40-n and the terminals 41-n. The leadout wirings 331 (332) each consist of a portion extended from the respective electrode 40-n as it is, a portion extended from the respective terminals 41-n as it is, and almost parallel, inclined linear wiring 42-n that connects the two extended portions. The length of the two extended portions and the width of the inclined linear wiring 42-n are adjusted so that the wiring resistances of the individual leadout wirings 331 (332) are almost the same.
