The device includes: a plasma display panel; and a sheet for protecting external light disposed at a front surface of the panel to protect the external light incident upon the panel, wherein the sheet for protecting external light includes a base unit formed with a plurality of grooves and a plurality of pattern unit lines formed on the plurality of grooves of the base unit and having refraction index different from that of the base unit, and the number of the pattern unit lines overlapped with any one of a plurality of discharge cells formed in the panel is 8 to 25.With the present invention, the sheet for protecting external light capable of maximally absorbing and protecting light incident from the external is positioned at the front surface of the display panel so that a black image can be effectively implemented and the bright room contrast and the luminance of the display image can be improved.

The filter includes an external light shield sheet which includes a base unit and a plurality of pattern units that are formed in the base unit, and a distance between bottoms of a pair of adjacent electrodes that are formed on the upper substrate is 2.5-12 times greater than a distance between a pair of adjacent pattern units. Since the plasma display device includes the external light shielding sheet which can absorb and shield as much external light incident upon the PDP as possible, the plasma display device can effectively realize black images and enhance bright room contrast. Since the distance between the pair of adjacent pattern units of the external light shielding sheet is within a predetermined percentage range of the distance between a pair of adjacent black matrices formed on the PDP or the width of the pattern units of the external light shielding sheet is a predetermined percentage range of the width of black matrices formed on the PDP, the plasma display device can reduce the probability of occurrence of the moire phenomenon and enhance the luminance of images displayed by the PDP.

There are provided an electromagnetic shielding sheet and a plasma display apparatus. The electromagnetic shielding sheet includes a base sheet; a first layer on a first surface of the base sheet, the first layer including first and second patterns crossing each other; and a second layer on a second surface of the base sheet, the second layer including a third pattern. The first and second patterns include a conductive material, the third pattern includes a light absorbing material, and at least one of the first and second patterns is grounded. Accordingly, conductive patterns for shielding electromagnetic waves and blocking external light are formed on a first surface of a base sheet, and patterns for blocking external light are formed on a second surface of the base sheet, so that the functions of shielding electromagnetic waves and blocking external light can be simultaneously performed using one sheet, and therefore, the ambient contrast ratio of a display image can be enhanced without increasing manufacturing costs. Further, patterns for shielding electromagnetic waves are directly formed a glass member of a filter or an upper substrate of the panel, so that processes of forming an electromagnetic shielding sheet can be easily performed.
