摘要： A cordless telephone provides for increased features available at a portable unit that have heretofore been available only at a base unit which combines a cordless telephone fixed station and telephone answering device. The cordless telephone includes a call screening feature which allows a user at the portable unit to monitor incoming messages received over telephone lines as they are being recorded at the telephone answering device without the user having to configure the portable unit in any way during actual receipt of the message. A built-in loudspeaker is incorporated into the portable unit so that the user may easily listen to the incoming messages. Once receipt of the incoming message is completed, amplifier circuitry driving the loudspeaker is turned off. The cordless telephone also includes a caller-ID feature which informs the user at the portable unit of the identity of a preidentified calling party before the call is answered. This operation is achieved by the user entering into a memory table in the telephone each one of a plurality of desired telephone numbers for subsequent access and comparison when a caller-ID number is received from a calling party. The user also associates with each telephone number a voice message which is subsequently generated in the loudspeaker in the portable unit in response to a favorable comparison between the caller-ID signal and the stored telephone number.

Additionally, the IDSL may act as a lookup facility to create, maintain, and update associations between a content information, policy rules, and unique identifiers of content, and any other associated information as detailed throughout. The IDSL coordinates with an IDSL database to identify interassociated items in the generation of entries regarding any related information.

摘要： A telephone message system overcomes the problems and limitations of presently available systems that seek to enhance inter-and intra-premises communications. The system advantageously comprises a controller unit with Caller ID capabilities and one or more adjunct units that are bridged onto a single wire-pair at a user's residential location in a parallel electrical connection. These customer installable units are merely plugged into any telephone jack and share a telephone wire-pair with existing telephone extensions without interference. Such operation is possible since communication between the controller unit and the adjunct units is limited to a frequency band different from the audio frequency band used by the existing telephone extensions on the single wire-pair. The controller unit, in one configuration, operates as an answering machine with multiple mailboxes. This functionality is advantageously combined with Caller ID, intercom and speakerphone capabilities. The adjunct units may be added to any of existing telephone devices thereby providing access to the functions available at the controller unit throughout the premises.

摘要： The present invention customizes a network connection to customer premises equipment using a calibration signal. A network signal processor emits a tag signal indicating that a signal processing platform is in use. Customer premises equipment (CPE) issues a calibration signal to the network signal processor based on detection of the tag signal. The customer premises equipment outputs the calibration signal to the network signal processor which measures the signal loss, adjusts the gain mapping and issues a calibration signal to the customer premises equipment. The customer premises equipment then estimates spectral shaping based on the calibration signal from the network signal processor and equalizes the receive path so that the signal processing platform is detected and implemented. Embodiments of the present invention are illustrative of a more general concept of the use of CPE as an agent in telephone network maintenance.
