Abstract: The present invention relates generally to improvements in inspection instruments or speculums used for dilating passages in the human body. And more particularly, to instruments of the above-mentioned type which may be plastic molded and hence produced at an extremely low cost. An embodiment of the invention disclosed herein comprises a pair of upper and lower pivotally coupled elongate jaw members and a handle section integral with each jaw member and extending generally laterally therefrom. A series of notches in one of the handle sections is adapted to interlock with lug means on the other handle section, said lug means being maintained in interlocking position as an incident to external pressures tending to close the jaw members.

Abstract: The present invention relates generally to improvements in plastic fasteners and more particularly to the provision of a unique and improved one-piece plastic grommet type anchor member for accommodating the threaded shank of a screw member when positioned within a work aperture. The anchor member disclosed herein includes a head section for clampingly engaging one side of an apertured workpiece, and a shank section comprising an elongate hollow portion for accommodating a screw shank, and diametrically disposed peripherally positioned shank arms integrally connected with and extending axially between underside of the head section and the entering extremity of said hollow portion.

Abstract: The embodiment of the invention disclosed herein is directed to a drive fastener for insertion into sheet material. The drive fastener is formed of a sheet metal stamping having flat wall sections in opposing relation to one another and which are tied together at a nose end which is formed of a short length of the sheet metal. The side edges of the flat wall sections diverge from the nose end to a neck portion and one of the side edges of each flat wall section has a laterally projecting shoulder immediately beneath the neck portion. Above the neck portion is formed a longitudinally and laterally projecting head portion. Along the length of the flat wall sections, neck portions and head portions are formed rib sections which are C-shaped in the cross section. These rib sections allow temporary lateral compression of the flat wall section during insertion of the drive fastener through an opening formed in the sheet material so that upon complete insertion of the fastener the rib section resiliently urges the side edges of the flat wall section outwardly firmly to engage the inner periphery of the opening. The rib sections are dimensioned laterally also to engage the periphery of the opening so that a four point contact of the drive fastener is made with the periphery of the aperture.

Abstract: The embodiment of the invention disclosed herein is directed to a spring drag device for a pop-up toaster that has one or more slots formed in the top wall to receive slices of bread. The popup mechanism includes a guide post positioned adjacent the slots formed in the toaster to vertically guide a bread-receiving support member which extends from the guide post. The breadreceiving support means is spring-biased upwardly so that when a release mechanism is energized when the toast is adequately browned, the bread support means is urged upwardly. To prevent abrupt upward motion of the toast, a spring drag device is secured to the guide post for increasing the friction between the bread-receiving support means and the guide post when the spring urges the bread upwardly. The spring drag device is formed of a single strip of metal having oppositely directed guide post gripping portions which freely slidably engage the guide post when bread is pushed downwardly into the slots and which grippingly slidably engage the guide post when the bread is urged upwardly by the spring means.

Abstract: The present invention relates generally to improvements in drawer receptacles and more particularly to receptacles in the form of a drawer adapted to be supported by a frame structure in cantilever fashion.
