Abstract: Technology for user equipment (UE) and evolved NobeB (eNB) to support enhanced coverage is disclosed. If both the UE and eNodeB provide support for a first and second coverage enhancement (CE) mode, one or more timers of the UE, eNB and a core network (CN) can 5 be configured according to an extended timer range. However, if either the UE or the eNB does not provide support for both the first and second CE modes, the one or more timers of the UE, eNB and CN are configured according to a legacy timer range.

Abstract: Technology for an eNodeB operable to support Cellular Internet of Things (CIoT) is disclosed. The eNodeB can generate a system information block (SIB) that includes one or more indicators that one or more CIoT Evolved Packet System (EPS) optimizations are supported at the eNodeB. The eNodeB can encode, at the eNodeB, the SIB for transmission to a user equipment (UE) to enable the eNodeB to receive a request from the UE for a use of the CIoT EPS optimizations. The eNodeB can decode a radio resource control (RRC) connection setup complete message received from the UE. The RRC connection setup complete message can include one or more indicators that one or more CIoT EPS optimizations are supported at the UE.
