Abstract: The present disclosure generally relates to a device and a method of decoding a color picture from a bitstream. It comprises: obtaining an expanded range luminance as a first component by applying a nonlinear dynamic expansion function to a luminance component obtained from the bitstream, wherein said nonlinear dynamic expansion function is determined depending on an inverse of a dynamic reduction function that has been applied to an original luminance component obtained when encoding the color picture; obtaining a second component by calculating a square root of a difference between a value determined by the first component and another value computed as a linear combination of a multiplication product of two chrominance components and square values of the two chrominance components obtained from the bitstream, and obtaining at least one color component of the color picture to be decoded at least from said second component and said two chrominance components by determining said at least one color component as a linear combination of the second component and the two chrominance components.

Abstract: A system and methods is provided for performing, by a processor, an initial tone mapping function on a first image to produce a second image. The first and second images are of different dynamic ranges. The method also includes applying, by the processor, a second tone mapping function to the second image when it contains any saturated portions. The second tone mapping function lowers luminance by a first fraction. The overall luminance of the second image is also determined and a fine tuning filter is applied when at least portions of said second image contain areas darker than an amount.

Abstract: The inventors realized that representing HDR content using LDR content and HDR residual is not unproblematic. The invention therefore proposes representing HDR content using LDR content, LDR residual and global illumination data, instead.That is, it is proposed a method of encoding an HDR video of high dynamic range together with an LDR video, the LDR video providing a lower dynamic range depiction of the HDR video content, the method comprising using processing means for encoding one video of the LDR video and a further LDR video extracted from the HDR video independent from the other video of the LDR video and the HDR video and predictive encoding the other video using the one video as reference, and lossless encoding global illumination data further extracted from the HDR video.This has the advantage that prediction is more stable and globally optimal predictors are more easily found.

These operations are being modulated according to the value of a single modulation factor mod representative of a peak luminance of a presentation display on which the reconstructed image is intended to be displayed, a peak luminance of a particular range image and a peak luminance of the original image data or the mastering display used to grade the original image data.
