Abstract: An image sensing apparatus including a pixel array comprising two or more photo-sensor elements, a first optical filter disposed on a first photo-sensor element of the pixel array and a second optical filter disposed on a second photo-sensor element of the pixel array. The first optical filter is configured such that a spectral response of the first optical filter includes a first passband in a first wavelength range and a second passband in a second wavelength range, where the first passband and the second passband are separated by a first stop band. The second optical filter is configured such that a spectral response of the second optical filter includes a third passband in the first wavelength range and a fourth passband in the second wavelength range, where the third passband and the fourth passband are separated by a second stop band.

Abstract: A surgical system comprises a network accessible database configured to store calibration data for an endoscopic image capture device. The surgical system also comprises an image processor configured to be communicatively coupled to the endoscopic image capture device to receive image data of a surgical site during a surgical or diagnostic procedure. The image processor is configured to retrieve the calibration data from the network accessible database via a network connection. The image processor is further configured to process the received images based on the retrieved calibration data. The surgical system further comprises a user control system coupled to the image processor and configured to receive the processed images from the image processor. The user control system comprising a display configured to display the processed images. The calibration data is periodically or dynamically updated on the database to account for changes in the surgical system or new calibration methodologies.

Abstract: Systems and methods for image detection during grasping and stapling include an end effector having a first jaw and a second jaw, an imaging sensor mounted to the end effector and configured to capture images of a material graspable by the end effector, and one or more processors coupled to the end effector and the imaging sensor. The one or more processors are configured to receive the images from the imaging sensor, determine one or more properties of the material based on the images, and display the one or more properties of the material on an interface. In some embodiments, the end effector is part of a medical tool and the material is anatomical tissue. In some embodiments, the end effector further includes one or more of a stapling mechanism configured to staple the material or a cutting mechanism configured to cut the material.

Abstract: An imaging system and method includes a rolling shutter sensor that captures a plurality of images of a scene, a time-varying illumination source that illuminates the scene, and a processor that receives the plurality of images from the rolling shutter sensor and separates the plurality of images into a plurality of feeds. Each of the plurality of images is captured as a series of lines. The rolling shutter sensor and the time-varying illumination source are operated synchronously to cause a plurality of on-cadence lines of the rolling shutter sensor to receive more illumination from the time-varying illumination source than a plurality of off-cadence lines of the rolling shutter sensor. Each of the plurality of feeds has a different contribution of the time-varying illumination source to an overall illumination of the scene.
