    Abstract: A decoding method of an MPE-FEC (MultiProtocol Encapsulation-Forward Error Correction) RS (Reed-Solomon) decoder, includes: substituting a value corresponding to an erasure error position with 0 in a reception signal; calculating a syndrome by using the reception signal; calculating an erasure position polynomial by using erasure information; calculating a modified syndrome by using the syndrome and the erasure position polynomial; calculating an erasure error size polynomial by using the modified syndrome; calculating an error position by using the erasure position polynomial; calculating an error size by using a modified Formey's algorithm; and correcting an error through the error position and the error size.

    Abstract: Provided are a method and apparatus for hierarchical modulation and demodulation in a Digital Multimedia Broadcasting (DMB) system. The method for hierarchical modulation in a digital broadcast signal transmitter includes the steps of: receiving a first broadcast signal and a second broadcast signal from outside, and encoding the broadcast signals by a first method and a second method, respectively; synthesizing the encoded first and second broadcast signals; determining a modulation point using a constellation diagram of an I-Q plane corresponding to the synthesized signal; and hierarchically phase-shift modulating the synthesized signal using the determined modulation point. Here, in the I-Q plane, the modulation point is deviated by a predetermined deviation angle from a phase axis passing through a modulation point of the first broadcast signal and an origin of the I-Q plane.

    Abstract: Disclosed are an apparatus and a encoding method using a turbo code and a unit and a method of permutation. The apparatus for encoding using a turbo code according to an exemplary embodiment of the present invention includes: a first encoder that encodes 3 bits inputted from first to third blocks each of which is formed of N bits respectively, with recursive systematic convolutional codes to output a first parity bit; a permutation unit that permutates the 3 bits; a second encoder that encodes the permutated 3 bits with the recursive systematic convolutional codes to output a second parity bit; and a puncturing unit that optionally removes the first parity bit and the second parity bit in consideration of a coding rate of a predetermined turbo code to control the coding rate.
