    Abstract: The present disclosure generally relates to a method and device for encoding an image block, characterized in that it comprises: obtaining (101) a low-spatial-frequency version (Llƒ) of a luminance component of the image block, said the obtained luminance component of the image block; obtaining a quantized luminance component (Llƒ,Q) of the image block by quantizing (102) the obtained luminance component (Llƒ) of the image block; obtaining (103) a differential luminance component (Lr) by calculating the difference between the luminance component (L) of the image block and either the quantized luminance component (Llƒ,Q) of the image block or a decoded version (Llƒ,Q) of the encoded quantized luminance component of the image block; encoding (104) the quantized luminance component (Llƒ,Q of the image block using at least one frequency coefficient of a set of frequency coefficients which is usually obtained from a block-based spatial-to-frequency transform for encoding the luminance component of the image block; and encoding (105) the differential luminance component (Lr) using the remaining frequency coefficients of said set of frequency coefficients.

    Abstract: An input HDR image may be represented using an SDR image and a modulation value. For the SDR image to be viewable and representative of the HDR image, we propose a mid-tone optimization technique to calculate the modulation value. In particular, we use two conditions when deriving the modulation value: (1) the blacks are not clipped down to zero too aggressively; and (2) the number of codewords in the SDR image used to represent the mid-tone range of the HDR image is maximized. The modulation value can further be clipped to avoid over-shooting in both very dark images and very bright images. Temporal stabilization can also be used to smooth temporal variations of the luminosity in the SDR video. After the modulation value is determined, the SDR image can be obtained based on the HDR image and the modulation value.

    Abstract: The present disclosure generally relates to a device and a method of decoding a color picture from a bitstream. It comprises:



    obtaining an expanded range luminance as a first component by applying a nonlinear dynamic expansion function to a luminance component obtained from the bitstream, wherein said nonlinear dynamic expansion function is determined depending on an inverse of a dynamic reduction function that has been applied to an original luminance component obtained when encoding the color picture;
    obtaining a second component by calculating a square root of a difference between a value determined by the first component and another value computed as a linear combination of a multiplication product of two chrominance components and square values of the two chrominance components obtained from the bitstream, and
    obtaining at least one color component of the color picture to be decoded at least from said second component and said two chrominance components by determining said at least one color component as a linear combination of the second component and the two chrominance components.
