摘要:
A method and apparatus for routing communications using end-to-end QoS reservations based on node mobility profiles is disclosed. The method may include setting up active quality of service reservations along a first path to a destination edge node, receiving a mobility profile from the destination edge node, setting up passive quality of service reservations based on the received mobility profile, switching communications from active quality of service reservations to passive quality of service reservations, and tearing down the active quality of service reservations based on the received mobility profile.

A method and apparatus for server election, discovery and selection in mobile ad hoc communication networks is disclosed. The server election method may include a server node that may elect itself as a server in network if the received server capabilities, network server lists and network specific parameters allow its election as a server in the network. A client node may discover and select a server in the network by transmitting a server discovery request to a plurality of nodes in the network, receiving advertisements from one or more servers in the network in response to the server discovery request, and selecting a server based on the received stability and connectivity information for each server from which advertisements are received.

A method and apparatus that provides quality of service in wireless or sensor networks is disclosed. The method may include determining a class of service for transmission of one or more messages, adjusting a maximum packet length based on the determined class of service, allocating message time slots based on the determined class of service, setting a guard band size and frequency of resynchronization, and transmitting one or more messages using the adjusted maximum packet length, the allocated message time slots, and the set guard band size and frequency of resynchronization.

Apparatus are provided, which include a wireless transmit interface and a wireless receive interface. A payload receive processor is provided to identify a receive overhead portion from received data received via the receive interface, and it is configured to retrieve payload data in relation to the receive overhead portion in accordance with a data structure protocol. A payload transmit processor is provided to define or modify a transmit overhead portion in transmit data to be transmitted via the transmit interface. The payload transmit processor is configured to position payload data in relation to the transmit overhead portion in accordance with a data structure protocol. A controller is provided, to determine a given wireless media location defined at least in part by the controller determining a given frequency band, from among plural frequency bands, for a given data transfer, via wireless media, between a given node and a separate node.

A method and apparatus that sends packets from a wireless communication device is disclosed. The method may include receiving a packet for transmission to a destination at the network layer from an upper layer within wireless communication device, determining if the packet's route to the destination can be determined within the network layer, wherein if the packet route to the destination can be determined within the layer, forwarding the packet to the destination, otherwise querying a subnet layer for the packet's route to the destination and determining if the subnet layer has determined the packet's route to the destination, wherein if the subnet layer has determined the packet's route to the destination, forwarding the packet to the subnet layer for forwarding to destination, otherwise sending a route request to the destination, receiving response to the route request from the destination, and forwarding the packet according to route specified in the route request response.
