摘要: In an enclosure of a heat exchanger that includes a wall having an opening for access to the enclosure and a nozzle for fluid flow through the wall, an articulate hoist for bringing an articulate manipulator into the enclosure is attached to the wall outside the opening. The lifting portion of the hoist, which is in the enclosure brings the manipulator into the enclosure. The manipulator which is is then attached to the wall outside the opening is adapted for reaching through the opening from inside the enclosure. A tool operator portion of the manipulator is adapted for engaging a nozzle dam for inserting the dam in the nozzle. One type of nozzle dam which the apparatus can install is one that falls within the description of a claim of U.S. Pat. No. 4,957,215.

摘要: A nozzle dam automatically latches on an annular ledge surrounding the nozzle opening. A pivotal latch arm on the dam, biased to the locked position is forced toward the unlocked position by a cam on the ledge as the nozzle is pressed on the ledge, and snaps into engagement with the ledge when the dam is fully seated over the opening. A bias arm may be operated by a wrench to pivot the latch arm toward the unlocked position until a detent locks the latch arm in the unlocked position.

摘要: There are disclosed method and apparatus for plugging the underwater recirculating nozzle of a boiling water reactor vessel. The method includes the lowering of a plug by a secondary cable into the annular space between the vessel sidewall and the nuclear fuel shroud. The cable is displaced outwardly, permitting the plug to enter the space between the sidewall and the jet pumps. Cable and plug are then shifted laterally into position over the nozzle, the weight of the plug being taken by a primary cable which lowers the plug into position. A special apparatus is provided which rests upon the core shroud and performs the steps of displacing and laterally shifting the cable.

摘要: In an apparatus for pressure testing open-ended pipes or the like there is provided a novel sealing means to form an air-tight seal between the open end of a pipe to be tested and an end plate of a pipe supporting test fixture. The sealing means comprises a continuous, annular, yieldable sealing member of triangular cross-section supported on the end plate. A pneumatically expandable annular actuator is associated with the continuous sealing member. The sealing member is normally spaced radially and axially from the junction area of the pipe end and test fixture end plate. The pneumatically inflatable actuator is operative to expand the continuous yieldable sealing element radially and simultaneously to advance it longitudinally, whereby the triangular sealing member is tightly wedged into said junction area to form a preliminary seal. When test pressure is applied, it acts upon the triangular sealing member to increase the seal effectiveness.
