摘要: A method of maintaining a surface charge on a photoreceptor within a predetermined voltage range is provided, comprising the steps of providing a charging device adjacent to a surface of the photoreceptor, determining a reference voltage to be applied by the charging device to the photoreceptor surface to establish a first photoreceptor surface voltage, and applying the reference voltage to the surface of the moving photoreceptor with the charging device while measuring a first photoreceptor current. The method further comprises comparing the first photoreceptor current to predetermined characteristics of the photoreceptor to calculate a first output value, comparing the first output value to predetermined characteristics of the photoreceptor and calculating a first correction voltage, and applying the first correction voltage to the photoreceptor surface with the charging device to obtain a surface voltage on the photoreceptor that is within the predetermined operational voltage range.

摘要: Apparatus and method in which a multi-color image, such as a standard four color image, is assembled on a medium, such as paper or film. Liquid ink contains conventional "solid" colored toner particles and also contains transparent counter ions. The conventional "solid" colored toner particles in plate to the surface of the photoreceptor while the transparent counter ions plate in the opposite direction, i.e., the transparent counter ions plate to the surface of photoreceptor in areas which are not discharged. Conventional "solid" colored toner particles plate to electrode in areas where the photoreceptor has not been discharged while transparent counter ions plate to electrode in areas discharged. This allows an apparatus and method in which the multi-color image can be assembled during a single pass of a photoreceptor without the necessity to erase and externally recharge the photoreceptor between development steps for each separate color resulting in an apparatus and method which can print multiple color images at an unrivaled speed.

摘要: Method and apparatus for producing an image on plain paper from image data using a photoreceptor. An image-wise distribution of charges is produced on the photoreceptor corresponding to the image data. A liquid ink having solid charged pigmented particles, the liquid ink having an effective glass transition temperature of less than 25 degrees Celsius is applied to the photoreceptor forming an image-wise distribution of the pigmented particles on the photoreceptor to form the image. The liquid ink has greater than seventy-five percent by volume fraction of solids in the image. A film forming means is positioned against the photoreceptor immediately following the application means to dry the image of the liquid ink to film forming within 0.5 seconds. The image is dried on the photoreceptor. The image is then transferred to an elastomeric transfer roller which forms a first transfer nip under pressure with the photoreceptor. The elastomeric transfer roller is heated to from 50 degrees Celsius to 100 degrees Celsius. Subsequently, the image is transferred to plain paper through a nip formed between a backup roller under pressure with the transfer roller. The release layer of the photoreceptor has a surface energy which is less than a surface energy of the elastomeric transfer roller which in turn is less than a surface energy of the liquid ink which in turn is less than a surface energy of the plain paper.

摘要: A method of producing an image on a final image receptor from image data in a multiple pass electrophotographic system is provided. The method includes the steps of applying transfer assist material to an intermediate transfer member and providing at least one development unit including a photoreceptive element and charged toner particles. During each complete processing cycle of an intermediate transfer member, a toned image is created and transferred to the intermediate transfer member by application of a bias. In multiple processing cycles of the intermediate transfer member, the transfer assist material and the at least one toned image thereby form a composite image layer on the intermediate transfer member. The method further includes contacting the composite image layer with a final image receptor while applying a bias that is sufficiently strong to transfer at least a portion of the composite image layer to the final image receptor.
