Abstract: A counter (or recorder) for a pill dispenser comprising two relatively moveable chassis components forming part of a pill dispensement mechanism, a pill delivery or dispensement channel and a counting (or recording) mechanism. The counting (or recording) mechanism comprises one or more actuation indicators, a ratchet pawl for incrementally advancing a first of the one or more actuation indicators and a drive mechanism for activating the ratchet pawl. The ratchet pawl is mounted to a first of the two chassis components. The drive mechanism is mounted to the second of the two chassis components.The drive mechanism is connected to a pill detect feature that can move between a positive dispensement position and a negative dispensement position if the channel is clear, the negative dispensement position being such that at least a part of the pill detect feature is positioned within or blocking the pill delivery or dispensement channel.
