Abstract: A drug mixing device is disclosed. The drug mixing device comprises a transfer member, comprising an aperture for dispensing a fluid, wherein the fluid is a first component of a drug to be mixed. The drug mixing device also comprises a container for containing a second component of the drug to be mixed, the container comprising a surface. The aperture is configured to determine the initial direction of the velocity of the fluid dispensed through the aperture and further configured to direct the dispensed fluid towards the surface. The aperture and the surface are arranged relative to each other to cooperate such that, in use, substantially all of the dispensed fluid initially encounters the surface at an oblique angle.

Abstract: A drug mixing device is disclosed. The drug mixing device comprises a container for containing a fluid component of a drug to be mixed and a housing. The housing comprises an inlet aperture configured to be connected to a fluid driver for driving a driving fluid into the container and an outlet aperture configured to permit the fluid component of the drug to be mixed to leave the container. The apertures are arranged such that the driving fluid enters the container through the inlet aperture, and additionally arranged such that the fluid component exits the container through the outlet aperture, the driving fluid having a lower density than the fluid component. The inlet aperture and the outlet aperture are arranged such that, in use, the inlet aperture is located above the outlet aperture.

Abstract: A method of transferring a mixed drug from a drug mixing device in which drug has been mixed to a drug administration device id disclosed. The method comprises the steps of establishing a fluid coupling in an initial configuration between the drug mixing device and the drug administration device to create an assembly comprising the drug mixing device and drug administration device, wherein the drug administration device is located above the drug mixing device. The method includes the step of inverting the assembly to position it in an inverted configuration such that the drug administration device is located below the drug mixing device. The method includes the step of causing a flow of the mixed drug from the drug mixing device to the drug administration device when the assembly is in the inverted configuration. Also described is a drug mixing device comprising a container for holding a mixed drug and an exit transfer member fluidly connected to the container, the exit transfer member for transferring at least some of the mixed drug to a drug administration device. The exit transfer member is arranged such that fluid flow of the mixed drug between the drug mixing device and the drug administration device can occur only when the fluid transfer assembly is placed substantially in a specified orientation.

The device can further comprise a needle guard that is movable relative to the lower housing along a first direction from a first position to a second position so as to expose a needle, and an upper housing supported relative to the lower housing. The upper housing can be configured to move with respect to the lower housing along a second direction from a pre-use position to a dispensed position. The housing latch can releasably interfere with the upper housing when the upper housing is in the pre-use position so as to prevent the upper housing from moving toward the dispensed position, and the movement of the needle guard toward the second position, causes the interference to be removed, thereby allowing the upper housing to move toward the second position.
