Abstract: There is provided a connector, for introducing or extracting a material to or from at least one receptacle, comprising a housing extending between a distal end and a proximal end, the housing comprising, at least at one end, a pierceable seal; a hollow needle mounted, at least partially, within the housing between the distal end and the proximal end of the housing, a first end of the hollow needle being connected or connectable to a first corresponding receptacle, and a second end of the hollow needle facing the pierceable seal at an end of the housing; and an actuating mechanism acting on the housing or the hollow needle to enable the hollow needle to pierce the pierceable seal thereby forming a communication through the pierceable seal, such that material is able to transfer through the connector.

Abstract: A patch-sized fluid delivery device may include a reusable portion and a disposable portion. The disposable portion may include components that come into contact with the fluid, while the reusable portion may include only components that do not come into contact with the fluid. Redundant systems, such as redundant controllers, power sources, motor actuators, and alarms, may be provided. Alternatively or additionally, certain components can be multi-functional, such a microphones and loudspeakers that may be used for both acoustic volume sensing and for other functions and a coil that may be used as both an inductive coupler for a battery recharger and an antenna for a wireless transceiver. Various types of network interfaces may be provided in order to allow for remote control and monitoring of the device.

Abstract: A formatting system for a medical device for preventing surgical infection is disclosed, including a kit comprising a formatting system. The formatting system includes a first syringe having a sufficient amount of calcium sulfate and a second syringe including a sufficient amount of water, the kit including a case to provide a protective and sterile housing. A sterile tray is molded to an interior of the case to provide a mixing vessel to mix at least one medication with the sufficient amount of water via a mixing device. The second syringe and the first syringe are connectable to permit the mixing the of the at least one medication, the sufficient amount of water, and the calcium sulfate to form a paste. An elongated tip facilitates the application of the paste to a patient.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a pharmaceutical adaptor system. The pharmaceutical adaptor system comprises a syringe assembly having an axial extension and comprising a first end part and a second end part, the first end part having a male tubular projection, the syringe assembly comprising a syringe and a connecting element having a first mechanical connection part, a unit such as a needle, a vial, a catheter or an IV line, and an adaptor providing fluid communication between the syringe and the unit and having a second mechanical connection part configured to engage with the first mechanical connection part in an engagement direction, thereby in fully engaged position preventing further relative axial movement between the adaptor and the male tubular projection, wherein the adaptor comprises a sealing element configured to receive the male tubular projection and provide sealing between the male tubular projection and the adaptor. The present invention also relates to a pharmaceutical kit system comprising a pharmaceutical adaptor system according to the present invention.

Abstract: Methods for the production of foamed sclerosant compositions are provided. Containers include a container body including one or more sidewalls extending between a top and a bottom of the container body and a bottom surface, a foaming space being defined in an interior of the container body. The foaming space contains a sterile gas and a mixing element configured to be operatively coupled with a rotatable actuator without the actuator entering into the foaming space. The container includes a female coupling member for mating with a syringe, and a pressure equalizer for equalizing a pressure inside the foaming space with a pressure outside the foaming space. Systems and kits including such containers are also provided. Also disclosed are methods for the preparation of a sclerosant foam which may include a pressure release before extraction of the foam and/or a continued rotation of the actuator while the foam is being extracted.

Abstract: A topical applicator of the propel/repel type includes a reservoir, an attachable applicator cap, and a metered dosing system. The reservoir is suitable for mixing a topical formulation of multiple constituents using an electronic mortar and pestle and is closed using the applicator cap. Alternatively, the reservoir may be prefilled with a ready-to-use cream and medicament formulation, then sealed with a removable seal. The topical applicator can include a fast purge feature that overrides the metered dosing system to facilitate removal of air from the reservoir. The topical applicator can also include a one-way ratcheting feature to prevent reverse movement (repel) of the metered dosing system. Metered doses can be dispensed through holes in the applicator cap by rotating a knob, which has detent positions that correspond to discrete doses, and which provides audible and tactile feedback.

Abstract: An automatic drug compounder system may be provided with various components and capabilities for reconstituting a drug in a vial and providing the reconstituted drug to a receiving container. The system may include a camera for capturing images of the vial and processing circuitry for extracting information such as a lot number and an expiration date from the images. The system may rotate the vial while capturing the images to capture images of the entire vial. The processing circuitry may search a portion of the image for the lot number and expiration date, the portion based on stored information. The stored information may include a location, orientation, font size, or font color for printed information for a particular vial. The stored information may be retrieved based on a bar code read by the system.

Abstract: A controlled environment enclosure comprises a robotic arm manipulation system used to protect and unprotect a fluid path and a swab within the controlled environment enclosure. The apparatus allows the fluid path to be protected against dangerous decontamination vapors and chemicals before the controlled environment enclosure is decontaminated. The apparatus allows the fluid path to be unprotected without the use of gloves or other means that degrade the integrity of the controlled environment enclosure when decontamination is completed, which may be automated. In some embodiments the fluid path comprises a fill needle that can removably and aseptically be sealed with a disposable monolithic injection moulded polymeric fill needle sheath. The apparatus and method further allow for the use of a swab disposed in a swab holder that is aseptically and removably sealable to a swab cap to protect the swab against decontamination vapors.
