Abstract: According to one embodiment, an illumination device includes light sources, a distributing light guide element and a light guide. The distributing light guide element has a first side surface, a second side surface and light waveguides extending from the first side surface towards the second side surface. The light guide has a third side surface and a first main surface. Each of the light waveguides have a first end portion into which light emitted from a corresponding light source enters, and a second end portion from which the light propagating in the light waveguide is emitted. The light emitted from the second end portion enters the light guide via the second side surface and the third side surface and is emitted from the first main surface.

Abstract: A display device includes a display panel, a lighting device configured to illuminate the display panel, an optical element configured to collect light transmitted through the display panel to user's eyes, and a drive circuit configured to drive the display panel based on an image signal having information on an image. The lighting device comprises a plurality of light-emitting elements emitting light having colors different from each other, and the drive circuit generates a plurality of color resolved images obtained by resolving the image for each color of the light, based on the image signal, adjusts sizes of the color resolved images based on the colors of the light, and displays the color resolved images on the display panel.

Abstract: A thin display device with a less bezel portion is provided. The display device includes: a first substrate with flexibility, the first substrate having a display section including a first pixel; a second substrate with flexibility; and a sealant which bonds the first substrate and the second substrate together. A curved part is provided inside the sealant in a planar view. When a surface of the first substrate opposing the second substrate is taken as a front surface and a surface opposite to the front surface is taken as a back surface, the back surface inside the curved part and the back surface outside the curved part are overlapped each other in a planar view. The display section is provided in the curved part.

Abstract: In a three dimensional display device of a parallax barrier system in which an IPS-mode liquid crystal display panel is used as a liquid crystal display panel for displaying images and a TN-mode liquid crystal panel is used as a parallax barrier panel, alignment axes of a counter substrate and a barrier substrate constituting the parallax barrier panel are set to 45 degrees and 135 degrees, respectively, with respect to a horizontal direction of a screen. This allows an improvement in the viewing angle characteristics of the parallax barrier panel and an improvement in the viewing characteristics of the overall three dimensional display device of the parallax barrier system. Thus, even when the line of sight moves, crosstalk between an image for a right eye and an image for a left eye can be prevented thereby allowing a viewer to recognize excellent three dimensional images.
