The present invention provides a haptics control system that may include a driver to generate a continuous drive signal and to output the drive signal to a mechanical system on an electrical signal line, wherein the continuous drive signal causes the mechanical system to vibrate to produce a haptic effect. The haptics control system may further include a monitor, coupled to the electrical signal line, to capture a Back Electromotive Force (BEMF) signal generated by the mechanical system in the electrical signal line, to measure a BEMF signals attribute, and to transmit an adjustment signal to the driver based on the BEMF signals attribute. The driver is further configured to adjust the continuous drive signal according to the adjustment signal.

A system and method is provided for a high accuracy digital temperature sensor (DTS). The system includes a differential analog temperature sensor based on bipolar junctions, providing an output signal obtained as the difference between the VBE of two bipolar junctions. This signal is converted into the digital domain and compared to N−1 threshold digital values for providing piece-wise linear error correction for the variations with temperature of the different error sources within the DTS. This system and method advantageously improve the accuracy of a DTS over an extended temperature range.

The present disclosure provides numerous applications for the use of liquid crystal polarization gratings (LCPGs) to controllably steer light. When combined with an image sensor, light generated or reflected from different fields of view (FOV) can be steered, allowing an increase in the FOV or the resolution of the image. Further, the LCPG can stabilize the resulting image, counteracting any movement of the image sensor. The combination of LCPGs and liquid crystal waveguides (LCWGs) allows fine deflection control of light (from the LCWG) over a wild field of view (from the LCPG). Further applications of LCPGs include object tracking and the production of depth images using multiple imaging units and independently steered LCPGs. The LCPG may be used in controlling both the projection and reception of light.

A method and apparatus for automatic resonance detection is disclosed for a motor-driven mechanical system such as a voice coil motor (VCM) in which a resonance detector and driver are provided. The automatic resonance detector is implemented on the same integrated circuit as the driver, and dynamically determines the natural resonant frequency of the VCM driven by the driver. The resonant frequency is determined by measuring the back electromotive force (BEMF) of the VCM, detecting the slope of the BEMF signal, and determining the resonant frequency from the slope of the BEMF signal.

A system and method for classifying touches input into a four-wire resistive touch screen is presented. A voltage may be applied to electrodes in a layer making it the active layer. A first set of four voltages may be measured by a voltage sensing circuit from electrodes in the active layer of a touch screen and a passive layer of a touch screen. The voltage may be switched from electrodes of the first layer to the electrodes of the second layer. A voltage sensing circuit may measure a second set of four voltages nearly simultaneously from electrodes in the active layer and the passive layer of a touch screen. Each set of measured voltages from the passive layer and or the active may be processed. A rule set may be applied to the processing results. An indication of the type of touch that was applied to the touch screen may be provided and optionally including quantitative results.
