Abstract:
The invention relates to a process for the preparation of cyclododecanone oxide consists in photochemically reacting cyclododecane, dissolved in chloroform, a nitrosating agent and hydrogen chloride in a virtually anhydrous medium, that is to say under conditions such that the water content in the reaction medium does not exceed 1000 ppm.
Abstract:
The subject-matter of the invention is a process for the preparation of cyclododecanone oxime by photonitrosation of cyclododecane in the presence of hydrochloric acid, characterized in that the nitrosing agent is trichloronitrosomethane.
Abstract:
A process for the preparation of organic compounds or polymers containing one or more sulphur atoms and including one or more double bonds in a hydrocarbon chain is described. An acyclic sulphur-containing olefin or an unsaturated sulphur-containing cyclic hydrocarbon undergoes a self metathesis reaction or a cross metathesis reaction with a non-sulphur-containing acyclic olefin or a non-sulphur-containing unsaturated cyclic hydrocarbon to produce novel olefins, novel dienes, and/or olefinic polymers containing one or more sulphur atoms.
Abstract:
Improved catalyst for the metathesis of olefins comprising a compound of W with a halogen and with a phenoxy group which can carry substituents. It contains 4 halogen atoms and 2 phenoxy groups per atom of W. Preferably, the phenoxy group is halogenated. This catalyst allows the more rapid carrying out of various types of metathesis reactions, when it is used as a co-catalyst in conjunction with organo-metallic compounds, particularly Al or Sn. Amongst others, it allows the economical preparation of pheromones. It is practically insensitive to traces of water and oxygen.
Abstract:
A magazine-indexing mechanism for a powder-actuated tool, of the type adopted for use with a disk-shaped cartridge magazine, is actuated by the same trigger displacement as actuates the firing mechanism. A first link, pinned to the receiver, and a second link, pinned to an extension of the trigger, are pinned together, with a magazine engaging hook disposed on the dictal end of the first link. When the trigger is pulled, as to fire the tool, the hook is displaced to engagement with the magazine. When the trigger is released, the engaged hook is displaced, indexing the magazine. Means are also provided to prevent indexing an unfired cartridge through the tool.
Abstract:
A powder-actuated tool is provided with a barrel assembly having two parallel, communicating bores and a piston comprised of joined, offset portions, with one of said portions being adapted to slide in one bore while another portion is sliding in the other bore, whereby it is possible to provide a relatively short tool, capable of setting long fasteners, with continuous centering, of the fasteners, during their displacement.
Abstract:
Process for purifying the hydrochloric acid obtained as by-product in the synthesis of MSA, characterized in that the gaseous flow of hydrogen chloride evacuated from the top of the synthesis reactor is placed in contact in a treatment column, counter-currentwise, with a flow consisting of an aqueous solution of an acid chosen from methanesulfonic acid, hydrochloric acid or a mixture of these two acids, at a temperature of between 80 and 130° C.
Abstract:
Process of polymerization of unsaturated hydrocarbons, with an initial induction period, by means of a catalyst constituted by a halogeno-phenate of tungsten, of which the phenate group carries one or more substituents, in the presence of an organometallic co-catalyst; the halogeno-phenate is chosen from amongst those represented by the formula ##STR1## where X is a halogen, especially Cl or Br, n is a whole number 2, 3 or 4, R.sup.1 is H or a C.sub.1 to C.sub.8 straight- or branched-chain alkoxy group, R.sup.2 is H or a C.sub.3 to C.sub.9 branched-chain alkyl group, R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 never being hydrogen simultaneously.
Abstract:
Halogenation of alkanes and of cycloalkanes by the action of ultraviolet upon a solution of the halogen in the alkane; the solution is prepared in advance and passes into the irradiated zone, after having been put into contact with a halogenation inhibitor. Preferably, the inhibitor, which is a metal of Group VB of the Periodic Classification, is also provided at the outlet from the reactor.
Abstract:
A power adjustment for a piston-type powder actuated fastener driving tool wherein a tube is slidably disposed in the barrel of the tool, the tube containing the driving piston of the tool. The tube has a radially inwardly extending flange at its breech end which engages a radially outwardly extending surface on the piston. Means for moving the tube axially of the barrel are provided so that the distance between the flange and firing chamber can be varied whereby the gas expansion chamber between the firing chamber and the rear face of the piston can be varied thereby varying the power with which the piston is driven.
