A method is described for assisting a driver of a vehicle (01) in exiting from a lateral parking space (02) in a longitudinal direction with respect to a roadway, comprising the method steps: starting of the method when a parking space (02) is to be exited longitudinally with respect to a roadway; measuring of at least the length (D) of the parking space (02); determination of a parking-space-exiting trajectory (03) at least on the basis of the data acquired by means of the measurement; starting of the parking-space-exiting process; carrying out of the parking-space-exiting process with simultaneous collision prevention by monitoring the distance from at least objects (05, 07, 08) which bound the parking space (02); and ending of the method as soon as collision-free exiting from the parking space (02) is possible. Furthermore, a driving assistance device for carrying out the method and a computer program product which causes a microprocessor with associated storage means to carry out the method are described.

A method for assisting a vehicle driver in exiting from a lateral parking space in a longitudinal direction with respect to a roadway is disclosed. The method involves measuring at least the length of the parking space to obtain measurement data, determining a parking-space-exiting trajectory at least on the basis of the measurement data, starting a process of exiting the parking space, and carrying out the process of exiting the parking space with simultaneous collision prevention by monitoring a distance from a plurality of objects which bound the parking space. During the exiting process, the steering of the vehicle is controlled automatically, and the automatic control of the steering concludes when the vehicle has reached an intermediate position from which the vehicle can exit the parking space using a single maneuver. The method concludes as soon as the parking-space-exiting trajectory allows for collision-free exiting from the parking space.

The invention describes a method for the operation of a driving assistance system when parking a vehicle (01) in a lateral parking space (02) along a carriageway, in which below a particular activation speed and during the search for a parking space, possible parking spaces (02) are measured and an information item indicating that a suitable parking space (02) has been found is output to the driver for a parking space (02) of sufficient length for the vehicle (01), wherein the rear area (03) of the vehicle (01) is monitored when the activation speed is undershot during the search for a parking space, and the driver of the vehicle (01) is warned of a potential shunt accident as a result of a sudden braking maneuver when there is a following vehicle (05) in the rear area (03). In addition, it describes a driving assistance apparatus for carrying out the method and a computer program product which prompts a microprocessor having associated memory means to carry out the method.
