摘要: Exemplary methods and systems for providing access to IMS services are disclosed herein. An exemplary method involves a first radio access network (RAN) component: (a) sending a registration message to an IMS network in order to register the first RAN component with the IMS network, wherein the IMS registration message provides an IP address at which to register the first RAN component, (b) receiving a service request from a first access terminal, wherein the first RAN component is a serving RAN component for the first access terminal, and (c) in response to receiving the service request, the first RAN component engaging in an IMS service on behalf of the first access terminal, wherein engaging in the IMS service on behalf of the first access terminal comprises sending the IMS network a first initiation message for a session event, wherein the first initiation message comprises: (i) a field that identifies the first access terminal and (ii) a field that includes an IP address of a second RAN component that serves a target access terminal.

摘要: A new access channel protocol for use in cellular systems such as CDMA whereby the data transfer efficiency of an access message is increased by removing the requirement that a preamble frame and a message capsule frame have equal times of duration. With such removal, the BTS must inform listening MSs as to the time duration of the frames in each of the preamble and the message portions of the access channel time slot in addition to previously supplied information as to the number of frames in each portion. When unequal frame duration times are allowed, each portion of the access channel may be more nearly optimized to the actual time required to perform the functions of synchronization and message detection.

摘要: A system and method for timely maintaining or establishing an R-P connection after a mobile station (MS) roams from the control of an old base station controller (BSC) to that of a new BSC is provided. The process may be initiated during a registration process of the MS, during an origination process, or during a termination process. A Mobile Service Center (MSC), Visitor's Location Register (VLR), or the MS may be used to store the packet data call status information including point to point protocol (PPP) session status information and configuration information about an old BSC including its related cells and PDSNs. In some cases, this information may also be transferred to the new BSC through a BSC to BSC connection.

摘要: A wireless communication network includes a mobile station and a base station which are adapted to allow an ongoing voice call to be converted to a digital fax call without forcing the user to relinquish the line and to restablish a call for the purposes of a transmitting digital fax (fax from a digital device). A base station controller is adapted to respond to an analog tone which prompts the base station to set up a digital fax call even though a voice call is already in place. Similarly, a mobile station is adapted to set up a digital fax call even though a voice call is in place either when it receives the analog tone originated by the PSTN or when it receives an AT command from a personal computer indicating that a digital fax transmission is desired.

摘要: A new message format and protocol in an IP mobility system. Deallocation of a mobile node's IP address during a multipart communication session on a foreign network can cause serious communication and accounting errors. The new message format and protocol should eliminate the premature deallocation of a mobile node's IP address, which should reduce associated communication and accounting errors.

摘要: A communications system and method that separates operational aspects of a packet data service to be provided on a wireless network into separate, independent state diagrams. The method first decomposes the communication service into several different service layers. The method then defines a dynamic behavior of the service layers and an interaction therebetween. Once the behavior and interaction between the layers is defined, the method creates a control element with which to coordinate the service layers.

摘要: A method, system, and computer-readable media are provided for determining connection needs of a mobile device connecting to a wireless network. In one aspect, the computer-readable media provide a method that includes receiving a request from a mobile device to access a wireless network, and performing an authentication phase related to the mobile device attempting to access the wireless network. Furthermore, the method includes evaluating signaling behavior of the mobile device during the authentication phase to determine which access technology from a plurality of types of access technologies to use to connect the mobile device to the wireless network. Moreover, the method includes connecting the mobile device to the wireless network using the determined access technology.

摘要: A method and apparatus for dynamically assigning a home agent to a mobile station for a mobile IP session. The method and apparatus allow the telecommunications network to assign the home agent that is best able to serve the mobile station. This is achieved by utilizing a predetermined IP address that indicates to the network components, such as the packet-switched data network, the home agent, the home authorization, authentication, and accounting server, and the like, that the mobile station is requesting a dynamically assigned home agent.

摘要: An enhanced mechanism for the reverse link power control in a wireless communication system, especially for high speed data applications and fixed wireless communication applications, dynamically adjusts the power control step size of the reverse link power control. The power control step size is dynamically adjusted based on various factors including types of service, number of reverse supplemental code channels, total received power at the base station, estimated diversity gain and required mobility, among others. The system which includes stationary infrastructure, can query a subscriber unit's capability in the support of a pre-defined set of power control step sizes before assigning it to the subscriber unit. Furthermore, the subscriber unit may decide its optimized power control step size based on certain feedbacks from the system. In a specific embodiment, enhancement to the ANSI EIA/TIA-95 system is provided such that it supports a variable subscriber unit power control step size and associated signaling in accord with this invention.

摘要: Disclosed is an apparatus and method for increasing the efficiency of usage of an assigned rf spectrum used by a cellular or wireless communication system for a large number of high speed data transfer user requests. An MS, upon analyzing a plurality of parameters available to the MS may determine that although it needs more than a single channel to accommodate a given software data generating application, it may adequately and optimally use less than the maximum number of channels (or maximum data rate) that the MS can support. The MS then generates a request to the base station for additional channels (or a supplemental channel of a higher data rate) to transmit in one data burst a specified total number of quantity of data. The request may also specify the maximum number of channels (or maximum data rate) that the MS can support along with an indication of relative priority by means of indicating the amount of time over which the burst occur as an optimum situation for the MS. The response from the base station may downwardly adjust the number of channels (or data rate) from that considered optimal in the request by a mobile station for a high speed data burst when available system resources are inadequate to accommodate all requests.
