Compositions and methods for detecting and using these APOC1 haplotypes in a variety of clinical applications are disclosed. Such applications include articles of manufacture comprising compounds effective in delaying the age of onset of AD in individuals at risk for developing AD and having one of these APOC1 haplotypes, methods and kits for predicting the age of onset of AD in an individual at risk for developing AD based upon his/her haplotype profile, and methods for delaying the age of onset of AD in individuals at risk for developing AD based upon their haplotype profile.
