Abstract: A multi-level window shutter has a shutter frame movably supporting at least one first level external shutter panel via an external panel opening mechanism mounted on the shutter frame. The external panel movably supports at least one second level internal shutter panel via an internal panel opening mechanism mounted on the external panel and connected to the shutter frame and to the internal panel for simultaneous displacement of the internal panel upon displacement of the external panel relative to the shutter frame. The panels move between a closed position in which they are in a side-by-side configuration relative to one another in spaced apart parallel planes and an open position in which they are in an over-one-another configuration relative to each other in the spaced apart parallel planes.

Abstract: A shutter assembly for installation on the outside of a building wall including one or two shutter panels fitted with top and bottom rollers moveable along tracks in a plane outwardly spaced from and parallel to the external wall. A rack is carried by each panel inside thereof and a pinion, meshing with this rack, is carried by a shaft extending through the wall and provided at its inner end, inside a building room with a crank wheel for moving the shutter panels between opened and closed position at the side and in front of a window opening respectively. The shutter panels are heat-insulated and are provided with seals to extend around the periphery of the window opening when the panels are in closed position to thereby form an air insulating chamber with a window unit within the window opening. The top rollers together with the rack are fitted with a spring suspension to permit easy installation and removal of the rollers on and from the tracks and to accommodate any variation in the vertical position of the pinion which may have occurred during the installation.

Abstract: An external window shutter for use in front of an exterior window opening includes a frame surrounding the window opening and is attached to an exterior wall surface. The shutter has two panels that are movably mounted on the frame. The panels are mounted generally parallel to the wall surface and to the frame, and are actuatable along a path of travel between an open configuration and a closed configuration. The shutter includes a first guide member attached to respective upper and lower portions of a window facing surface of each panel and extending substantially along the entire length of each panel; and a second guide member attached to respective upper and lower portions of an outwardly disposed surface of the frame and extending substantially along the entire length of the upper and lower portions of said outwardly disposed surface of the frame. The guide members each have complementary engager parts shaped to slidably engage each other for moving the panels along the path of travel, the engager parts being located on the same side of the frame. The panels, when positioned together in the closed configuration, substantially enclose the frame.
