    摘要: A method and/or an apparatus which places a broadcast message which the source expects a reply message in a broadcast message for route discovery. The combined message is broadcast throughout the ad-hoc network. When the combined broadcast message is received at the destination node, the destination node generates a response message including a reply message to the broadcast message that the source node expects a reply. The response message is sent back to the source node over the route which the combined broadcast message traveled to the destination node.

    摘要: A method for establishing a route over which data packets are to be sent from a source node to a destination node in an ad-hoc network is provided. A source having packets to send to a destination node employs a reactive routing protocol if it does not posses the route to the destination node. Initially, it may be determined whether or not the source node is a member of an existing piconet. If the source node is a member of an existing piconet, a ROUTE request message may be broadcast to the nodes of the existing piconet, while the source awaits a timely REPLY message. If the source node is not a member of an existing piconet, or if a time REPLY message is not received, the source node may initiate a new route discovery process wherein the nodes attempt to establish new piconets that enable more efficient communication between the source and destination nodes.

    摘要: A system and method for determining whether to establish a connection between a first node and a second node in an ad-hoc network includes the step of sending from the first node to the second node a first message, where the first message includes a network identifier and a point of attachment identifier. The first message is received by the second node and the network identifier and the point of attachment identifier of the first message is compared with a network identifier and point of attachment identifier stored in the second node. The second node determines whether to establish the connection between the first node and the second node based upon the comparison. The point of attachment identifier is associated with a node of the ad-hoc network that provides communication with another network, which the node identifies, via an access point of the other network.

    摘要: When connecting a unit to one or more existing ad hoc wireless networks comprising several units, the units e.g. adapted to communicate according to the Bluetooth specification and the network then being formed according to the same specification to comprise one or more piconets, a unit can discover the units which are the masters in the networks, and then connect as a slave to those masters. Specifically it does not have to use the master-slave switch according to the Bluetooth specification. In the first stage of the unit trying to make a connection it establishes contact with at least one unit in an existing ad hoc network and then additional information on the status, in particular the role of master or slave, of the unit already connected in the network is transferred to the not yet connected unit. This information facilitates the decision of the unconnected unit as to which unit in the network that it should try to correct to. Then, in the actual connecting of the unit to the network, the roles of the unit and of the already connected unit can be chosen by the unit wanting to be connected. In particular, the initially inquiring and paging unit may become a slave unit in a newly formed piconet or in an already existing piconet.

    摘要: In conventional ad-hoc networks using reactive routing protocols the route between the source node and the destination node is not updated until the route is actually broken. In response to predetermined events a request for updated route message can be sent to the destination node to determine if another route exists between the source node and the destination node. A reply to the request for updated route can be provided by either the destination node or by a node which has a cached route between the source node and the destination node. This updated route request scheme can be implemented in networks which use source routing and networks which use distance vector routing.
