The aerosolized material having a unipolar charge in the deposition chamber experiences an electrostatic force of controlled magnitude that is directed (preferably antigravitationally) towards the substrate surface by means of an (externally) applied electrostatic field.

    摘要: A transflective display device has a well (30) formed in an insulating layer (20) for defining a dual-gap arrangement. At least one side wall (72) of the well is substantially perpendicular to the plane of the substrate and at least one side wall (70) is sloped away from the perpendicular to the plane of the substrate. In this way, some of the length of the well side wall is vertical, so that no pixel aperture is lost, and another part of the length of the side wall of the well is sloped so that good coverage can be obtained over that sloped side wall.

    摘要: A non-rectangular display device has a first set of column conductor lines and a second set of column conductor line. The first set of column conductor fines extends straight from an addressing edge of the array of pixels to another edge. The second set of column conductor lines extends between edges of the array of pixels but does not terminating at the addressing edge, as a result of the shape of the display. A column bus extends from one end of each of plurality of the column conductor lines of the second set to the column driver circuit. This column bus provides connection to columns of pixels which do not terminate at the edge of the display, as a result of the shape of the display. This bus can occupy a small space around the periphery of the display, so that design freedom is maximised.

The array of pixels has a non-rectangular outer shape, and the device comprises at least three row driver circuit portions R and at least three column driver circuit portions C disposed alternately around the outer periphery of the array. This arrangement enables row and column drivers to be divided into portions which are arranged in such a way that addressing can be provided for complicated display shapes.

    摘要: An active matrix display has a column driver for providing signals to the pixels for driving the display elements, the column driver comprising digital to analogue converter circuitry providing a first number of display element drive levels. Within each pixel, the first number of display element drive levels is converted into a second, greater number, of pixel grey levels. This combines multi-level digital to analogue conversion with in-pixel level generation and enables the complexity of the DACs to be reduced so that they can be integrated onto the display substrate, for example using low temperature polysilicon processing.

The addressing conductors 50,52 are not parallel with the pixel rows or pixel columns 42,44. This arrangement decouples the row and columns of pixels from the addressing conductors. This provides freedom in the positioning of the driver circuits, which are positioned at the ends of the first and second conductors, which in turn gives greater design freedom for the shape and position of the display in a product.
