The use of the hygroscopic polymers in combination with the cellulose derivatives results in improved cleaning performance.

The cellulose derivative can be used by itself or in a laundry detergent composition in a washing step or is a post washing step. The cellulose derivative is particularly effective on synthetic fibers.
