Abstract:
An assembly which includes a first member with torque transmission elements, and a coupler which connects together, in a rotatably driving relationship, the first member and a second member. The coupler includes an intermediate section disposed between an axial forward end and an axial rearward end of the coupler, a forward section extending between the intermediate section and the axial forward end, and a rearward section extending between the intermediate section and the axial rearward end. The intermediate section includes torque transmission elements for engaging with the torque transmission elements of the first member, to facilitate transmission of torque from the first member to the coupler. The torque transmission elements of the coupler are automatically brought into a torque-transmitting relationship with the torque transmission elements of the first member when the coupler is engaged with the first member. Other variants and embodiments are broadly contemplated herein.
Abstract:
A coupler for use with a roof drill bit includes an elongate coupler body having a forward end for removably attaching the roof drill bit thereto and a rearward drive end. The elongate coupler body contains an interior bore therein and a dust port formed on an outer surface of the elongate coupler body, wherein the dust port is in communication with the interior bore.
Abstract:
A cutting tool mounting assembly adapted for attachment to a surface of a rotatable driving member of a cutting tool machine, includes: a tool holder having a key shank; a base attached to the surface of the rotatable driving member, the base having a mounting groove for receiving the key shank of the tool holder; a resilient retention structure configured to interact with the base and the tool holder to facilitate a friction fit between the tool holder and the base; and wherein tool holder includes a retention post configured for cooperating with the base for connecting the tool holder to the base. Also included is a dampening element configured between the tool holder and the base for reducing vibration therebetween.
Abstract:
A rotary drill bit includes an elongate drill bit body having a slot at a forward end, an edge protector received in the slot of the drill bit body and a cutting insert having a cutting edge. The edge protector includes: a first side having a first bottom edge and a first top edge; a second side opposed to the first side, the second side having a second bottom edge and a second top edge; and a bottom portion adjoining the first bottom edge of the first side and the second bottom edge of the second side. The cutting insert is received in the edge protector such that the cutting edge is recessed below one of the first top edge of the first side or the second top edge of the second side.
Abstract:
A radial cutter bit includes a non-rotatable shank portion, a head portion including a tip region distal from the non-rotatable shank portion, and a cutting insert mounted at the tip region of the head portion. The cutting insert includes a body having a leading face, an opposing trailing face, a first side and a second side. The leading face has a central face portion, a first side face portion extending toward the first side of the body and a second face portion extending toward the second side of the body. The cutting insert further includes a top surface having a relief surface, a T-land surface extending between at least a portion of the leading face and the relief surface of the top surface and a cutting edge formed at the intersection of the T-land surface and the relief surface of the top surface.
Abstract:
A cutting tool rotatable about a central longitudinal axis of the cutting tool and configured for impingement upon a substrate includes an elongate cutting tool body having a head and a shank axially rearward of the head. The head includes a cutting member at an axial forward end thereof, a bolster portion axially rearward of the cutting member and a base portion at an axial rearward end of the head. In addition, the bolster portion includes a convex shape section and a generally cylindrical section contiguous with and axially rearward of the convex shape section.
