    Abstract: Cutting tools (14) and cutting tool assemblies (10) include a friction ring (79). The friction ring (79) is provided in (disposed/secured within) a retaining groove (32) of a shank (30) of the cutting tool (14). The friction ring (79) can be formed from a resilient material or materials (150). The friction ring (79) can be secured in the retaining groove (32) by a retainer ring (80). The cutting tools (14) can also include a shank (30) having an increased diameter to provide increased strength and allow for a heavier cutting portion (28) of the cutting tool (14). The cutting tools (14) and cutting tool assemblies (10) can also include a washer (100) fitted about the shank (30) and positioned adjacent to a back side (26) of the cutting portion (28) of the cutting tool (14) for stabilizing the cutting tool body (22) in relation to a cutting tool holder (12).

    Abstract: An improved base block is disclosed for use mainly in road milling equipment, but also capable of use in trenching equipment and mining equipment. The base mounting portion is shortened in length from such prior art base blocks and has a reduced length device receiving portion extending therefrom that includes a bore therethrough. Rearwardly of the device receiving portion, the base mounting portion includes a reduced diameter semi-bore or curved wall capable of engaging a portion of the shank side wall of a standard length bit/holder shank. Additionally, an angled slot adjacent the rear of the device receiving bore increases access to the rear to aid removal of a bit/holder therefrom.

    Abstract: A tool holder insertion device includes a frame extending from a proximal end to a distal end, the frame including first and second longitudinal arms extending between the distal end and the proximal end. The frame also includes a distal transverse arm connected to respective distal ends of the first and second longitudinal arms, a proximal transverse arm opposite the distal transverse arm, and an internal space extending from the distal transverse arm, the internal space forming an insertion opening. The tool holder insertion device also includes a drive assembly fixed to the frame, the drive assembly including a pushing surface that is movable within the internal space toward the distal end of the frame.

    Abstract: A bit assembly includes a base block and a bit holder having a forward body portion and a shank. The forward body portion includes an enlarged tire portion to deflect material and particles removed from the terra firma and protect the base block from damage. The base block includes a base and a shortened front end. The enlarged tire portion has dimensions that cover at least all of the shortened from end. The dimensions of the tire portion can also extend beyond the dimensions of the shortened front end.

The cutter holder and base system according to the present invention aims to solve the problems in the prior art that a cutter holder structure is unreasonable, the cutting force of a cutter cannot be well dispersed in the cutter holder and a base, so that the service lives of the cutter holder and the base are shortened. The base is provided with a hole-shaped inner area and two curved surface areas, where the two curved surface areas are disposed in a circumferential area of the hole-shaped inner area, the curved surface areas are arranged at an angle, and each curved surface area includes two curved surfaces. The cutter holder improves its own usage performance while a lighter weight is achieved.

    Abstract: A round-shank pick having a pick head and a pick shank that includes a supporting element pierced along its longitudinal center axis by a mounting hole with an inside diameter for receiving the pick shank. A collar height, measured in the direction of the longitudinal center axis between an end, facing away from the seat surface, of the centering extension and the seat surface or between the end of the centering extension and an inner termination of a recess that is integrally formed in the supporting element in an indented manner with respect to the seat surface, is configured such that the ratio between the inside diameter of the mounting hole in the supporting element and the collar height is less than 8, and/or that the collar height is greater than an axial clearance of the pick mounted in a pick holder.
