The invention aims to provide a binder for powder metallurgy, the binder containing an epoxy resin which is liquid at room temperature and a curing agent having at least one functional group selected from the group consisting of amino, mercapto and carboxyl groups. The binder involves few problems in point of workability and safety, suppress the scattering of graphite, and is superior in powder characteristics. The invention also provides a mixed powder for powder metallurgy using the binder and a method for producing the mixed powder.

In case of thickening a feed resin without pre-drying, it is intended to enhance the thickening effect. In an apparatus for mixing a polyester resin continuously, comprising a chamber 4 having a material feed port 2 and a material discharge port 3, a mixing rotor inserted into the chamber 4 rotatably, vacuum pumps 8 and 9 for dehydrating the interior of the chamber 4 under reduced pressure, a material feed means 6 connected to the material feed port 3, and a chemical agent feed means 10 connected to the chamber 4 for adding into the chamber a chemical agent having a thickening function for the feed resin, a portion located upstream of the chemical agent feed means 10 in the chamber 4 is used as a drying section 14 in which the feed resin before the addition of the chemical agent thereto is subjected to mixing while being dehydrated under reduced pressure, and a portion located downstream of the chemical agent feed means 10 is used as a thickening section 15 in which the feed resin after the addition of the chemical agent thereto is subjected to mixing while being deaerated under reduced pressure.

A resin coated metal sheet of the invention has an epoxy resin layer on a galvanized metal sheet, wherein the resin layer contains iron phosphide and at least one selected from the group consisting of aluminum triphosphate, calcium ion exchange silica and amorphous magnesium silicate compound. In the resin coated metal sheet, the epoxy resin is an urethane modified epoxy resin and/or dimer acid modified epoxy resin, and the iron phosphide has a maximum particle diameter of 15 nullm or less. The resin coated metal sheet has excellent weldability, formability and corrosion resistance.

A mixed powder useful as a starting material for dust core comprises a uniform mixture of a soft magnetic powder and a binder resin so that the resultant dust core has an electric resistance capable of suppressing an eddy current between the soft magnetic powdery particles and high mechanical strength at room temperatures and also at high temperatures. In the mixed powder, the binder resin is made of a phenolic resin powder which has a methylol groups in the molecule and preferably has an average particle size of 30 nullm or below and wherein when the phenolic resin powder is dissolved in boiling methanol in large excess, a content of an undissolved matter is at least 4 wt % based on the total of the phenolic resin. A dust core obtained from the mixed powder and its fabrication method are also described.
