摘要： A wireless communication method and device may be used to perform a media independent handover between technologically diversified access networks. A wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) may be configured to communicate with a plurality of technologically diversified access networks, such as Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) 802.X networks and Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) networks. The WTRU may include a plurality of access network specific protocol stacks and a media independent handover (MIH) function. The WTRU may be configured to communicate information with each of the plurality of access network specific protocol stacks using protocols specific to each to the plurality of access network protocol stacks.

The method includes, and the apparatus is configured to, generate a higher layer handover message, send the higher layer handover message encapsulated in a lower level formatted communication, set a higher layer timing device for a timeout period in connection with the sending of the encapsulated higher layer handover message, and resend the higher layer handover message encapsulated in a lower level formatted communication unless a higher layer acknowledgement is received before expiration of the timeout period.

摘要： A radio interface layer media independent handover (RIL MIH) client functionality enables transparent inter-system handover of a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) between different radio access technologies (RATs), without user intervention. The RIL MIH client interacts with RIL drivers and proxies, informs the RIL proxies of the handover status, then the proxies interact with a new driver in use. A WTRU is modified to add MIH functionality to a telephony server to support inter-system handover.

MIH messages are exchanged for handover with the MIH application server over IP using SIP messages by encapsulating the MIH messages in SIP instant messages. Alternatively, the MIH messages may be exchanged with the MIH application over IP by sending equivalent SIP messages in place of the MIH messages.

摘要： A method for controlling behavior of lower layer links related to media independent handover (MIH) of a mobile user comprises sending a MIH link actions request primitive from a MIH User entity to a MIH function (MIHF) for requesting actions to be executed on a set of lower layer links to heterogeneous radio access technology (RAT) networks. The primitive includes parameters that indicate the requested actions and an execution time delay. Confirmation primitives are sent back the MIH User entity to convey the results of the execution attempts on the requested actions.
