摘要： A recording medium device including a cartridge body within which a tape-shaped recording medium on which information signals are recorded is accomodated, wherein a cartridge discrimination opening (hole) indicating the specification of the recording medium device is provided at the bottom surface side of the cartridge body and positioned in the corner of the portion of the back (face) side opposite to the front side of the cartridge body from which the tape shaped recording medium is drawn out. In addition, a recording and/or reproducing apparatus with a detection mechanism for detecting the cartridge discrimination opening (hole) is provided. The cartridge discrimination opening (hole) is provided in the area where it was previously known to provide plural recording medium specification openings (holes) but which are not provided in the cartridge body.

摘要： This invention is directed to a tape cassette in which a tape body is wound across a pair of tape reels rotatably supported by the cassette body. At the cassette body, there are provided a first write protect mechanism provided in correspondence with the position where there is provided a write protect mechanism provided at other tape cassette loaded with compatibility with respect to a recording/reproducing apparatus into which tape cassette is loaded, and a second write protect mechanism provided at the position which is not in correspondence with the position where write protect mechanism provided at the other tape cassette is provided, wherein the first write protect mechanism is in write protect state at all times. Thus, when there is loaded tape cassette where recording of information signals is carried out by other recording format into recording/reproducing apparatus corresponding to only tape cassette of a specific recording format of tape cassettes different in the recording format, recording of information signals with respect to this tape cassette is inhibited to realize protection of already recorded data.

摘要： This invention is directed to a tape cassette in which a tape body is wound across a pair of tape reels rotatably supported by the cassette body. At the cassette body, a location of a first write inhibit mechanism corresponds to the position of a write inhibit mechanism for another tape cassette. A second write inhibit mechanism is provided at the position that is not in correspondence with the position where write inhibit mechanism provided at the other tape cassette is provided. The first write inhibit mechanism is in a write inhibit state at all times. Thus, when there is loaded a tape cassette where recording of information signals is carried out by a different recording format into recording/reproducing apparatus corresponding to only a tape cassette of a specific recording format of tape cassettes different in the recording format, recording of information signals with respect to this tape cassette is inhibited to realize protection of already recorded data. Discrimination techniques are also disclosed.

摘要： A tape cartridge housing a magnetic tape includes an auxiliary storage medium having a storage unit in which to store the recording medium information such as design parameters or the number of times of recording and/or reproduction of the magnetic tape, and a transmission/reception unit for effecting inputting/outputting of the recording medium information with the recording and/or reproducing apparatus. The auxiliary storage medium is mounted so that the transmission/reception unit is exposed to the outside through an opening provided in a lateral surface of the main cartridge body unit not obstructing the loading of the magnetic tape, that is in a surface of the main cartridge body unit other than its front surface as an inserting end of the tape cartridge into the inside of the recording and/or reproducing apparatus. The auxiliary storage medium has an antenna constituting the transmission/reception unit for inputting/outputting the recording medium information with the recording and/or reproducing apparatus. It is through this antenna that the power is supplied from the auxiliary recording and/or reproducing unit provided on the recording and/or reproducing apparatus in accordance with a non-contact system transmitting the recording medium information and the power overlaid on the recording medium information.

摘要： A recording medium cartridge has a bar code label provided on the outer surface of its case so that the bar code of the bar code label indicates identification information associated the with recording medium disposed in the case. A memory circuit is provided inside the case so that identification information identical to the information indicated by the bar code label may be stored in the memory circuit. A recording/reproducing apparatus includes a bar code reader for reading the bar code of the bar code label, and a memory reader for reading the identification information stored in the memory circuit. Either the identification information read by the bar code reader or the identification information read by the memory reader is employed as the identification information associated with the recording medium cartridge. If the bar code cannot be read for some reason such as degradation of the bar code label, the identification information read from the memory circuit is employed as the identification information associated with the recording medium cartridge. This ensures that the identification information can be managed in a highly reliable fashion.

摘要： A tape cassette including a cartridge and one tape reel provided in the cartridge, with a recording medium in the form of a tape being wound upon the tape reel. In the tape cassette, a leader_tape that is more rigid than the recording medium in the form of a tape is connected to an unwinding end of the recording medium in the form of a tape; a toothed portion (a protrusion) is formed on at least a portion of both side edges of the leader_tape; the tape reel has a flange on a top portion and on a bottom portion of a hub, and feed teeth (engaging portions) that engage the protrusions of the leader tape are formed on outer peripheral edges of the flanges. Rotation of the tape reel in one direction causes the engaging portions to feed the protrusions, whereby the leader_tape is sent out from the cartridge. The tape cartridge can be reliably mounted to a recording/reproducing apparatus.

摘要： A tape driving apparatus which operates corresponding to the individual tape cassette loaded therein. A tape driving unit is included for running a magnetic tape included in the tape cassette and for recording/reproducing information to/from the magnetic tape. A memory driving unit is provided for reading/writing management information from/to a memory by implementing a predetermined communicating process. The memory is located at the tape cassette and stores the management information for managing a recording/reproducing operation to/from the magnetic tape. Identification information of the tape cassette is detected from the memory. A knowledge information memory stores knowledge information formed of operation specifying information and conditional information corresponding to the identification information of the tape cassette. The conditional information is evaluated based on the identification information. A controller controls a predetermined operation corresponding to the operation specifying information based on a result of the evaluation.

摘要： An autochanger incorporates a storage unit that includes a plurality of storage sections for storing recording medium cartridges. The recording medium cartridges have a recording medium installed, and a first memory for storing data informative of the recording medium. Connection terminals allocated to the storage sections are provided for accessing the first memory of a desired recording medium cartridge. A loading/unloading unit is provided for loading and unloading the cartridges, and accessing a data signal on the recording medium of the cartridges. A carrier conveys the recording medium cartridges between the storage unit and the loading/unloading unit, and a control memory saves the informative data. A system controller controls the storage of the cartridges by reading the informative data from the first memory on the cartridges, saving the informative data to the control memory, and updating the informative data in both the first and control memories according to a response of the loading/unloading unit to accessing data on the recording mediums.
