The transport mechanism includes a rotably mounted drum, a pair of toothed wheels fixedly mounted on the drum, a pair of rotably mounted exit rollers, a motor for driving the drum and one of the exit rollers and an arrangement of gears for coupling the motor to the drum and the drum to one of the exit rollers. In the operation of the apparatus, the toothed wheels transport articles from the stack into the gate and the exit rollers discharge articles from the gate, the gate allowing only one article at a time to pass through.

摘要： An apparatus for dispensing articles from a stack, the apparatus being particularly useful in dispensing articles having a leading edge, a trailing edge and a sensitive top or bottom surface. The apparatus for dispensing such articles includes a base, a frame mounted on the base for enclosing in a stack a plurality of articles to be dispensed and a gate for receiving articles from the stack and allowing only one article at a time to pass through. The apparatus further includes a transport mechanism for transporting articles to be dispensed from the stack into the gate. The transport mechanism includes a movable pusher element, a reversible motor mounted on the base, a first slider element slidably mounted on the base, a second slider element slidably mounted on the base, a rack fixedly mounted on the second slider element and a pinion fixedly mounted on the motor. The pusher element is pivotally mounted on the first slider element and is pivotally coupled to the second slider element by a linkage. The transport mechanism functions by having the moveable pusher element contact the trailing edge of the lowermost article in the stack, advance the lowermost ticket from the stack forward into the gate and then move the pusher element back to contact the trailing edge of the next article in the stack without contacting the bottom surface of the next article as it passes underneath the next article.

In another embodiment of the invention each frame is hingedly and lockably mounted on its base and in still another embodiment of the invention, which is intended especially for use with cards which include an integrated circuit chip onto which information can be written into and read off of, each article dispensing assembly includes a read/write head assembly underneath its frame for reading information off of the chip on the card at the bottom of the stack and/or writing information onto the chip on the card at the bottom of the stack. In addition, a weight is provided which holds the stack down in the frame and which is constructed to prevent unauthorized removal of cards from the bottom of the frame when it is partially empty.

In one embodiment of the invention each frame is hingedly mounted on its base. In another embodiment of the invention each frame is removably mounted on its base rather than being hingedly mounted on its base and includes an open top through which articles are loaded, a rear wall underneath which articles exit the frame, a cover for covering the top, a gate for controlling passage of articles from the underneath of the rear wall, a first locking mechanism for locking the cover in place over the top and a second locking mechanism for locking the frame in place on the base of the article dispensing assembly, the second locking mechanism also controlling the position of the gate on the frame.

A plurality of exit rollers are located behind the gates for pulling tickets out of the gates of the respective dispensing assemblies. An angled tray receives articles emerging from the exit rollers and directs the articles forward to an opening in the front of the cabinet for removal.

In the operation of the apparatus, articles dispensed by the article dispensing assemblies drop down into the top portion of the angled tray and then slide down to the bottom of the angled tray where they can be removed by a person. The intermediate portion of the angled tray includes a trap door. When an article to be dispensed is defective, the trap door opens causing the article to drop down into the reject box instead of sliding down to the bottom of the tray.
