摘要:
A system in which a single VLAN architecture spans multiple VLAN transport protocols and technologies, including a method and system in which multiple different VLANs may be combined in a single enterprise network. Each LAN-switch in the system identifies each frame with an identifier, and associates that identifier with particular VLAN identifiers for each type of VLAN technology. When a frame is bridged or routed from a first type of VLAN to a second type of VLAN, the first VLAN encapsulation is removed and the second VLAN encapsulation is added, with appropriate change in the VLAN identifier for the frame or packet. The identifier may also be implicit for the frame, such as when a particular set of sender's MAC addresses are identified with a particular VLAN. Individual VLANs, of whatever architecture, may be added, configured or reconfigured, modified, or deleted, using control tools associated with the multiple VLAN architecture system. Individual ports may be associated with particular VLANs, or may be designated “dynamic” so that frames or packets associated with those ports are associated with particular VLANs in response to source or destination addresses or other information.

A system and method for implementing telephony devices in a distributed network environment is disclosed. The present invention provides for voice transmissions to be given a dedicated virtual local area network (“VLAN”) for packet transmission and reception to prevent poor quality of service. Non-voice data packets are transmitted on a separate VLAN.

A system and method for implementing telephony devices in a distributed network environment is disclosed. The present invention provides for checking data packets to ensure that non-voice data packets are properly tagged to be transmitted on a native virtual local area network (“VLAN”). Voice data packets transmitted on a separate VLAN with a higher priority.

In one embodiment, a wireless access point receives a wireless advertisement frame having a source address field that indicates a reachable node being advertised, a destination address field that indicates a destination to which the reachable node is to be advertised, a transmitter address field that indicates a transmitting node from which the wireless advertisement frame is received, and a receiver address field that indicates the access point. The wireless access point then transmits a reflected wireless advertisement frame having a source address field that indicates the reachable node, a destination address field that indicates the destination, a transmitter address field that indicates the wireless access point, and a receiver address field that indicates both a plurality of receivers the reflected wireless advertisement frame is to be accepted by, and a node that is to be excluded from accepting the reflected wireless advertisement frame.

A system and method automatically configures the interfaces of an intermediate network device. A discovery process operating at the device detects the identity or type of network entities actually coupled to the device's interfaces. Utilizing the identity or type of detected entities, a look-up is performed to obtain a configuration macro specially defined for each detected network entity. The retrieved configuration macros are executed and applied at the respective interfaces. During operation, the intermediate network device continues to monitor the identity and type of entities actually coupled to its interfaces. If a change is detected, such as an entity moving from a first to a second interface, the specially defined configuration macro for that entity floats from the first to the second interface where it is executed and applied.
