摘要: A surgical assembly includes an actuator. A linking member is connected to and extending from the actuator. The linking member includes a series of at least two interconnected inner links that are relatively movable such that the linking member is disposable between a flexible configuration and a rigid configuration. An arm extends from the actuator and includes a series of relatively moveable outer links that define an axial bore configured for disposal of the linking member. Each outer link defines a first mating surface and a second mating surface disposed in a configuration such that the actuator is engageable to move the linking member from the flexible configuration to the rigid configuration to selectively fix the arm in a selected orientation. Methods of use are disclosed.

摘要: A bottom-loading multi-axial bone anchor apparatus is disclosed. The apparatus includes a receiver member, a crown member, a bone anchor and a retaining member. The receiver member defines an upper opening and a lower opening, which may form part of the same opening, a channel, and a groove. The crown member and bone anchor are loaded into the lower opening of the receiver member, and the retaining member fits around the bone anchor and into the groove in the receiver member. The bone anchor is capable of multi-axial positioning with respect to the receiver member. An elongated member is placed in the channel of the receiver member, contacting the crown member, and a compression member is applied via the upper opening. The compression member presses down on the elongated member, which presses down on the crown member and locks the bone anchor between the crown member and the retaining member.

摘要: A surgical installation tool to insert a vertebral implant into a patient includes an elongated handle and a head attached to one end. The vertebral implant may be attached to the head. The head may include an engagement member that is movable between engaged and released positions. The engagement member may be outwardly biased so that it naturally rests in the released position. The engagement member may be inwardly movable from the released position to the engaged position. A reactive force caused by the inward deflection may supply the attachment force between the installation tool and the vertebral implant. The attachment between the vertebral implant to the installation tool may be maintained while the engagement member is in the engaged position.

摘要: A device for applying a corrective force to a spinal column segment is provided that includes a mechanism with opposite first and second engagement ends and driving means for moving the opposite engagement ends in extension and retraction directions. A locking mechanism has a first position in engagement with the mechanism to prevent the opposite engagement ends from being moved in one of the extension and retraction directions while allowing movement in the other of the extension and retraction directions. The locking mechanism has a second position that allows the opposite engagement ends to be moved in both of the extension and retraction directions. The locking mechanism can also be configured to prevent the opposite engagement ends from being moved in either of the extension and retraction directions when in the first position.

摘要: A bottom-loading multi-axial bone anchor apparatus is disclosed. The apparatus includes a receiver member, a crown member, a bone anchor and a retaining member. 摘要: A method is provided for detecting neural interference between a bone anchor and a neural element during or subsequent to the application of force on the bone anchor to adjust the orientation of one or more vertebral bodies relative to the spinal column. The method includes engaging at least one bone anchor to the vertebral body and applying force to the bone anchor to adjust the positioning or orientation of the vertebral body. A nerve monitoring system provides an electrical signal and is operable to detect a neural element and its proximity to the bone anchor as a function of a characteristic of the electrical signal.

The interface facilitates attachment of instruments to an exterior of the anchor. The devices may further be sized for use in minimally invasive surgical procedures where direct visualization and manipulation of the anchor is often impractical. The device may include first and second members that are movable relative to each other. The members include distal ends sized for insertion into a head of an anchor. The device may include a handle operatively connected to one or both members to move the members relative to each other to expand a size of the first member to engage with the head. The engagement is confined with the exterior of the head remaining exposed for attachment of an instrument to the head. One or both members may further be shaped to facilitate attachment of the instrument to the head.

摘要: A spinal implant system is disclosed for the fixation of bone segments in the spine. The system includes an elongated member, one or more bone anchor assemblies, and stabilizer members which are fitted within the elongated member. A bone anchor is attached to a bone, and the elongated member and stabilizer are fitted over the bone anchor. A rounded washer and nut having a corresponding rounded underside surface are fitted on to the bone anchor over the elongated member, and tightened. The configuration of the bone anchor assembly, including an intermediate portion of the bone anchor, the arcuate washer, and the nut, along with the configuration of the sliding support, allows multi-axial positioning of the bone anchor with respect to the elongated member at a plurality of locations along a slotted member.

摘要: A device for supporting weak bony structures includes a body having first and second ends configured for contacting adjacent bony structures. The body has a wall that with a number of opening, and the wall defines a hollow chamber for receiving bone growth inducing material. The device includes an end cap for placement in the hollow chamber adjacent one of the ends of the body. The end cap has opposite upper and lower surfaces, and includes a plurality of arms extending from a central ring. Each of the arms having a first end connected with the ring and an opposite second end including an outer surface. Each of the outer surfaces are positionable adjacent the inner surface of the wall of the body when the end cap is inserted into the hollow chamber. Each arm can also include a projection that extends at least partially into a wall opening.

摘要: A multi-axial bone fixation implant includes an elongated member, one or more bone anchor assemblies, and stabilizer members which are fitted within the elongated member. A bone bolt having cancellous threads on one end and machine threads at the opposing end and an enlarged portion between these sections is also provided. The bone bolt is anchored into a bone via the cancellous thread end. The machine threaded end passes through an opening of the elongated member and the stabilizer, and is engaged by a coupled washer and nut. The washer includes an undercut within its oblong aperture, and the nut includes a projecting sleeve. The sleeve is inserted into the washer aperture and expanded, so that the undercut retains the sleeve within the washer without impairing the rotatability or translatability of the nut and washer with respect to each other. When locked by the nut and washer atop the elongated member, the enlarged portion of the bolt is forced against an inside wall of the stabilizer, which is in turn locked against the elongated member. Accordingly, the elongated member is fixed with respect to the bone anchor at one of an infinite number of multi-axial angles.
